As you progress through your gym challenge journey in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, you will sometimes have to help your fellow citizens against Team Rocket's evil plans. In addition to being an unusually gifted child who can solve problems out of the goodness of his heart, there are also excellent rewards for your hard work, such as the Master Ball.
The Master Ball will guarantee a capture, and is easy to obtain if you follow these steps to infiltrate Silph Co. and drive out the Team Rocket goons and their leader, Giovanni.
Where to get the Master Ball
After you acquire the Silph Scope and clear out the Lavender Town ghost tower, you can start chasing a Master Ball. First you have to reach Saffron City by navigating around from east and approaching through the underground tunnel.
When you reach Saffron City, you will notice that the whole city is busy with Team Rocket Grunts roam the streets.
Head towards the large building in the center of town; this is Silph Co.
If you arrive before taking care of the ghost issue at the tower in Lavender Town, there will still be a rocket guard blocking the Silph Co. entrance.
Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen: Starter Choice Guide
We return to the toughest question in Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle?
How to get through Silph Co.
The Team Rocket guard will step aside from the Silph Co entrance in Saffron City.
Fight your way up from the second floor, take teleport to the eighth floor, and send the researchers here.
Their collection of Koffing and Grimer isn't too tough, but they can poison you, so be careful and try to OHKO them if possible just to be safe.
Collect the iron here, then make your way down to seventh floor and keep sending Team Rocket members, including one of the four Rocket Brothers.
Grab one Calcium down to the left go to the sixth floor.
Take out the other Rocket brother on the east side of the floor, then proceed to fourth floor to take the card key along with Southern hall, past Rocket Grunt and the teleporter.
You have to step on the teleporter and then come back to access the right side where the card key is.
With this key you will be able to open a variety of locked doors over Silph Co.
You can get one Full Heal, Max Revive and Escape Rope from the far left door on the fourth floor.
There is also one Hyper Potion behind two doors in the southwest, next to scientist Jose.
Go up to floor number nine, and you will meet the third of four Team Rocket brothers in the southwest corridor.
There is also a bed to rest in if you venture into the southwest corner.
Grab the Carbos, Rare Candy and Ultra Ball on tenth the floor, then take teleporter from west side of third floor to seventh floor.
Here you have to defeat your rival and their team in the 30s, which shouldn't be too tough. In addition to his starter, your rival will have:
- Pidgeot – Level 37
- Alakazam – Level 35
- Exeggcute – Level 35
- Growlithe – Level 37
Claim a Lapras from the person in the same room as this battle.
Proceed through the teleporter and defeat last Rocket Grunt on your way, then unlock the door to Giovanni.
Defeat Giovanni's Law:
- Nidorino – Level 37
- Nidoqueen – Level 41
- Kangaskhan – Level 35
- Rhyhorn – Level 37
Once you defeat Giovanni, talk to Silph Co. President on the couch in this room and take your Master Ball.
Which Pokemon should you use Master Ball on?
When deciding when to use your Masters Ball is a deeply personal decision, depending on which Pokemon you like there are some important recommendations for what will you use your Master Ball for:
- Entei
- Suicune
- Raikou
- Mewtwo
- Shiny Pokemon
The best Pokemon to use your Master Ball on are the legendary dogs, who can escape and permanently disappear from your game if you stun them, or if they use Roar to escape.
The available Legendary Pokémon will depend on which starter you choose, but any of the three are legitimate choices to catch with your Master Ball, given the high risk of losing them.
Entei appears if you choose Bulbasaur, as well as Suicune if you choose Charmander and Raikou for Squirtle.
