During the 2024 Game Awards, Florida-based video game developer and publisher Saber Interactive announced that it is developing Turok: Origin. Based on Turok, son of stone series from the 1950s, Turok is a long-acclaimed video game series first introduced in 1997 by now-defunct video game publisher Acclaim Entertainment on the Nintendo 64. Since its N64 debut, Turok has struggled to gain a foothold on 21st century consoles and has only released two titles beyond its 64-bit era: Turok: Evolution and 2008 Turok restart. While only a short trailer and a few official posts have been made Turok: Origin So far, there is a lot players can expect from the game in 2025.

New Co-Op Turok Game Announced
Saber Interactive is unveiling a brand new Turok co-op multiplayer game at The Game Awards 2024, where players can team up to face aliens.
Turok: Origins' gameplay and setting can draw from the past
In the 1950s Turok was initially introduced as an adult Native American man who discovers ancient dinosaurs and other creatures in a secluded valley in North America before the Europeans arrived. In the 1990s, Turok was rebooted by Valiant Comics, with the titular Indian now from the 18th century and the valley now called the Lost Land. Time there has no meaning; demons, dinosaurs and aliens thrive within. In the late 1990s, Acclaim restarted Turok again, this time turning Turok into a title taken up by members of a Native American tribe, as each Turok must devote himself to defending the barrier between Earth, the Lost Land, and other dimensions from multiversal threats.
Acclaim Comics' iteration of the Turok is what most people Turok games are based on save for 2008 Turokwhich features Joseph Turok as a space marine fighting dinosaurs on an alien planet. Most Turok Gameplay is primarily first-person with some third-person gameplay, such as riding prehistoric mountains as pterosaurs. Turoks gameplay is a mix of Downfalls gun games and Tomb Raiders exploration, with players often using a wide arsenal of sci-fi weaponry at their disposal to take down prehistoric and futuristic opponents. Besides fighting dinosaurs and other creatures, most of them Turok Games feature non-linear worlds filled with puzzles and collectibles like Chronoscepters and Nuke pieces. If all pieces are found, players can build these weapons towards the end of Turok 1 and 2.
There have been six main lines Turok games that include Turok franchise released so far, including:
- Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
- Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
- Turok: Rage Wars
- Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion
- Turok: Evolution
- The 2008s Turok
What players can expect from Turok: Origins 2025
Turok: OriginThe announcement trailer, while brief, shows many glimpses of the title's gameplay and environments. The trailer opens with an image of the supposedly lost land with a Mayan-like temple and a jungle filled with giant mushrooms and other alien or prehistoric vegetation. A Native American man wearing what appears to be a slim power suit is then shown running from dinosaurs as he attacks one with a futuristic axe. Shortly after the dinosaur is also shot with a blue arrow, the dinosaur's DNA is absorbed into the man's suit, similar to how Dovahkiin would absorb dragon souls in Skyrim. When an alien ship eclipses the sun, two more Indians join the unknown man, suggesting at least three player co-op.
In the last seconds of Turok: Origin' announcement trailer, it features the main Native American, presumably the first iteration of Turok, fighting dinosaurs in multiple ways, notably only in third person, unlike most Turok game. Here he is shown with laser guns, a futuristic shotgun, a futuristic bow similar to the iconic Tek bow and a giant knife or machete against dinosaurs and a giant scorpion. In one instance, the man uses what appear to be giant vines or tendrils from his costume to lift and knock down a dinosaur. This could be an example of Turok: Originnew DNA powers, which can alter players' costumes and can be upgraded by using enemy DNA.
A potential release window for Turok: Origins
No definite release date for Turok: Origin has yet to be revealed, but it may be on the wishlist and is expected to play on PlayStation 5, Steam, and Xbox Series X and S platforms. However, based on recent Saber Interactive game developments and releases, it is possible to speculate Turok: Origin' release date window. Sabers last game posted was A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead in October 2024, but this game was first announced in 2021 and later got its first trailer in June 2024. Likewise Warhammer 40,000: Space Marines 2 first announced in 2021 and later slated for a 2023 release but delayed to September 2024. Based on these previous games, Turok: Origin could be released in mid-2025 if fans are lucky, otherwise it could be around 2027.
