Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag resynced starting to feel a bit like last year Oblivion remastered: a terribly kept secret whose eventual revelation will vindicate thousands of rumormongers and Internet denizens. Evidence for this Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remaster features statements from Edward Kenway actor Matt Ryan, Black flag-related media recently uploaded to the Ubisoft Music Channel and a PEGI rating of “Black flag resynced“, was revealed in December 2025. A poorly kept secret indeed.
Ubisoft has not explicitly commented on these Black flag re rumors, so as always, take such claims with a grain of salt.
On the more speculative side of things, game insiders and outlets have commented on the details of this claim Black flag retribution. The most notable example of this came from Jeux Video Magazine, a French gaming media company, which in September 2025 made several claims about Black flag the remake's gameplay, structure, story and technical details, including the revelation that it was developed in Ubisoft's new Anvil Pipeline engine, the same one used for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Jeux Video Magazine also claimed that this new version of AC Black Flag would leave out the modern story while adding cut back content for the Animus sections. Some of the allegedly cut content is a story involving Mary Read, one of the Black flags best characters, and players already know what it was meant to include.
What we know about Mary Read's Cut content in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Mary Read, according to all available historical accounts and records, was a famous female pirate during the golden age of piracy. For much of her career, she dressed in men's clothing and adopted the alias James Kidd, only revealing her gender at specific moments, such as during a duel to shock an attacker and during conversations with fellow secret woman Anne Bonny. This understatement, fascinatingly linked to gender dynamics and sexual expression, was conveyed in the main narrative of Assassin's Creed: Black Flagwhich features Read as one of Kenway's greatest allies.
While her role in the game is significant, it will reportedly be even more so in Black flag resynced. According to comments made by Black flag Narrative director Darby McDevitt, Ubisoft had originally planned to present a showdown in Nassau between chapters 10 and 11, adapting a real-life historical event in which Read and Bonny protect their incapacitated male allies from aggressive British naval forces. It's not clear how Edward himself would have factored into this event – if he'd also been incapacitated, for example – but the realization of this epic historical moment would have been cool to see in Black flag regardless.
Why more Mary Read Content is a boon for Black Flag Resynced
Very Assassin's Creed Games live and die on the backs of their supporting cast: historical figures, or those inspired by them, are often far more interesting than the actual protagonist of a given entry. Mary Read is such a character, so expand her role too Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced seems like a no-brainer. But increasing Read's engagement, however creatively feasible it may be, also has a practical side.
As previously mentioned, and as many Assassin's Creed fans have been eagerly debating, it is rumored Black flag The remake will allegedly cut all missions and cutscenes outside of Animaus, AKA modern. Whether this is bad or good is a matter of opinion, but such a choice would certainly bring Black flag Resynced more in line with newer AC records, highlighting their modern segment. Thus, by strengthening the in-Animus narrative box, which includes 18th-century scenes, dialogue, quests, and supporting characters such as Mary Read, this Black flag revival has a chance to be more cohesive and redundant, with a richer story focused more on mysterious pirate antics and historical heroics, and less on convoluted sci-fi aspects.
