Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun's new episode gives the invisible boy a second chance

The following contains spoilers for Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-Kun Season 4 Episode 1, “The Other Demon in the Misfit Class,” is now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The spring 2026 anime season has gotten off to a great start with the return of some cool isekai anime, such as Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. Part of what does Iruma-kun so effective is how it actually focuses a little less on the worn isekai tropes and is more about compelling everyday stories in a fantasy setting. The new season's premiere episode, “The Other Demon in the Misfit Class,” is a good example of this. The story may be isekai, but it hardly feels that way when topics like expressing yourself and having a sense of belonging are the foundation of this episode.

Right from the start has Iruma-kun The anime was about Iruma Suzuki's efforts to not stand out while making something of himself at Babyl's school for young demons. His character arc was pleasantly contradictory as his unusual methods and human perspective made him a standout star after all, and now it's Purson Soi's turn. He is the hidden student of the Misfit Class, one of the most invisible demons in the entire Netherworld realm. He's about to become a star too, but only if he can figure out his place in the Misfit Class and escape his family's strict rules.

As a whole, the Season 4 debut episode is a strong one, with “The Other Demon in the Misfit Class” taking part in one of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kungreatest strength. It's true that this anime is quite entertaining when the characters fight, which helps make it isekai My Hero Academiabut Iruma has more to do than fight monsters or pass physical tests. The best battles in Iruma-kun are the personal ones, with this anime slowly and surely advancing the personal arcs of everyone in the Misfit Class. Students like Asmodeus Alice and Shax Lead have all changed for the better, and now it's Purson Soi's turn as well.

Being invisible on purpose, Purson Soi never stood out among Babyl's strongest demons, but that is changing now, and for all the right reasons. The main story of this episode, and the inspiration for its title, is how Purson Soi is finally getting some attention, and just in time for the upcoming music festival. This works on a variety of levels to make the episode a fun episode, starting with how Purson Soi has been hiding in plain sight the whole time. He gets a late-game reveal in Season 4's new episode, with amusing and surprisingly heartfelt results that make him an immediate yet quirky standout among all these junior demons.

Fortunately, the news that Purson Soi is finally making her official debut isn't all the episode does. That gag is fine and all, but the crux of the matter is Soi's inner struggle as a likable demon boy. He cannot easily establish his presence, and his family's rules actually forbid it, so he feels trapped and alone. His social skills deteriorate as a result and he fears that he can't connect with his classmates, and even worse, the other demons are too pushy towards him. However, no one is a bully; it's a wonderful story about simple misunderstandings and how they can be fixed. That's what Iruma Suzuki is here for.

The episode only gets stronger as Iruma steps forward as the only one who truly understands Soi, which not only helps Soi take her first steps out of her shell, but also reinforces what makes Iruma so lovable. He is Babyl's only human student, and is thus the only student with serious empathy and kindness. Demons are selfish and aggressive by nature, but that's not what Purson Soi needs here.

Once again, Iruma is a personal hero who saves Soi the same way he emotionally saved his other classmates, and it's a promising start both for this new season and Soi's arc. Soi is perfectly relatable to anyone who feels invisible or irrelevant, and Iruma is relatable to viewers who also have a big heart and will lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it.

Iruma-kun Season 4 Episode 1 teases the most entertaining arc yet

Both music and rank are at stake going forward

It's no coincidence that Purson Soi plays the trumpet to vent his pent-up desire to chat with people, as the entire Abnormal Class stares down a competitive music festival in the near future. Even the strongest bloodline magic might not help here, as music is about expression and art, not fighting, and that means the demon students face a creative challenge. Iruma thrives in such contexts, so it's up to his classmates to put their aggressive ways aside for once. That alone promises good comedy and growth for the class, but above all, there are some meaningful stakes here.

Some of the most famous anime series of the 2000s didn't get off to the best start and became popular later.

The bigger stakes are the ranks, with many Abnormal Class students needing to move up one or even two ranks to continue using the Royal One classroom. The personal stakes are mostly for Purson Soi himself, where he faces both pressure and an opportunity to finally express himself and take the spotlight, rather than being invisible as usual. This may be entirely set up in Episode 1, but it's a meaningful setup with rich promise, and that's good enough for now.

Season 4 will be a full 25 episodes long, so there's no problem for the debut episode to take it a little slow as the next arc takes shape in everyone's heads. The fun stakes and Purson Soi's emotional quest do a lot to make this episode a good start to Season 4, even if the proceedings aren't exactly going to blow isekai fans away.
