Warframes next update, The old peace, launched on December 10. The new content allows players to explore a key moment in Tenno history, try out new game modes, and get to know—and maybe even find love with—the members of the infamous Devil's Triad. That said, this update is just the first of many exciting things to come Warframe in the near future. The developers have an exciting 2026 planned for players to look forward to.
Game Rant recently spoke with members of the Warframe development team, including creative director Rebecca Ford. Ford shared some teasers about what will happen Warframe 2026. Originally revealed at TennoCon 2025, The old peace quest is the beginning of a more in-depth exploration of the Tau system, a key location where many battles and moments of consequence have occurred throughout Warframes history. In addition to upcoming updates centered around the Tau, Ford hinted at some exciting events both in-game and in person. She confirmed that the team at Digital Extremes has a lot planned Warframe in the coming year.
Warframe's next big update will go to the modern Tau system
While The old peace will add a large amount of content to Warframe, it's really just the prelude to what's to come in 2026. Next year comes a “major narrative chapter” that takes players to the modern Tau system. Tau has always been a key place in Warframes lore – once a prime terraforming destination for the Orokin Empire, it became the official homeworld of the Sentients after they turned against their creators.
The old peace, which explores the Tau system of the old war, lays the groundwork for the large-scale Rope update coming in 2026. Ford discussed how the two updates will tie together:
“We think it's important to look back at the past to prepare for the future and exactly what Warframe needs. So we're looking at the past of the Tenno and Tau star systems, so we're fully prepared to see the Tau in the present, which is completely uncharted territory for us.”
Both The old peace quest and 2026 Rope update will use the team's “new way of telling Warframe stories”, which was first implemented in The whispers in the walls and also seen in Jade Shadows and Warframe: 1999. While the story of Warframe can be an epic one that spans centuries and galaxies, individual quests and stories focus on character dynamics and explore how one person's or group's story can fit into a larger narrative. Rope will continue this trend, Ford explained, saying the team “humbly promises[s] to continue telling grounded human stories in ways and formats that you've hopefully never seen before in a game.”
An “Echoes” update, Warframes, Skins and more are coming in 2026
While Rope is still a way out, Warframe players have plenty to get excited about earlier in the year as well. Ford teased that what the team calls an “eco” update will arrive early in 2026, to revisit and follow up on an earlier expansion. 2025 started with Techroot Encore, one more follow up Warframe: 1999 which introduced the deadly – but extremely musically talented – Technocyte Coda, Ruinous Rocker Warframe and more. Ford confirmed that 2026 will see something similar:
“We usually start the year with our 'echoes' update, which revisits aspects of the update before it and expands on things. Similar to what Techrot Encore did for Warframe: 1999.”
It seems likely that the 2026 “eco” update will tie in The old peace or The Devil's Triad mission in some way—perhaps expanding the romances players can form with members of the Devil's Triad—but the team is waiting until the start of the new year to share concrete information. “We'll have more details to share about that in our first Devstream of the year in January,” Ford said encouragingly Warframe players to listen to and learn more about what the coming year has to offer.
Stay tuned for new skins and Warframes
“Until then, look forward to new Warframes and cool new skins,” Ford said. In the latest Devstream, the team announced a Deluxe skin for Dagath as well as a Deluxe Kaithe Customization and Deluxe Kaithe Floof, which will be released in February 2026 to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. Warframe players will certainly be able to celebrate the Year of the Horse in style with all these horse themed goodies. There will be opportunities for players to earn Dagath's components in January 2026, although details have not been confirmed.
Deluxe Dagath is likely far from the only skin to come Warframe 2026, and, as Ford hinted, new Warframes will also be coming in. Ford teased that the team might be working on some unique and unexpected content: “That's my goal to ensure Warframe continues to be more accessible and stays fresh with new, weird ideas.”
2026 will be a big year for personal events
Finally, the developers of Warframe is preparing for several in-person events in 2026. Following the success of TennoCon 2025, TennoCon 2026 has already been confirmed, with tickets going on sale on February 27. The team also embarks on its world tour and hosts TennoVIP events in several countries. Ford said:
“Outside of the game, we continue our world tour and travel to connect with our players in person around the world with our TennoVIP events. Starting with Australia in January.”
Except for the event in Australia Warframe the team is confirmed to host both a Devstream and a TennoVIP event at PAX East in March, something they also did in 2025 to celebrate the game's 12th anniversary.
Tickets for these events will go on sale on February 12. Another event will be held in London in July, and additional 2026 TennoVIP events in other countries and cities may be announced in the near future. Interested players should keep an eye out for upcoming announcements, such as the Devstream scheduled for January.
All in all, 2026 looks set to be an exciting year Warframe, with The old peace just the beginning of what is to come. The upcoming exploration of the modern Tau system promises to add tons of content to the game as well as greatly expand the lore by finally allowing players to visit this key location where so many important events happened that shaped both the past and the present. While details may still be a bit scarce, one thing is certain: Warframe the players have a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
