Threat is tough. It makes no mistake to make it clear to you from the very beginning. A strong squad composition is a must, and knowing who you are up against is the only sure way to victory.
That's why it helps to know what to do. The game is light on tutorials and expects you to be proactive in managing your quads and mission choices. So here are some tips to make all of that a little more manageable.
With the game in early access at the time of this writing, it is very possible that the details mentioned here are subject to change
Hire more team leaders
At the start of the game you are given a selection of team leaders to choose from, with you being able to choose four. However, you can get many, many more. And you should absolutely do that as soon as you can.
In addition to being able to deploy more than four team leaders at the same time, they will eventually tire from consecutive missions. You want more team leaders ready to replace when that time comes.

You won't be able to put these turn-based strategy games down.
Always use as much inventory as possible
Each mission has a limit on how much you can take with you. Every piece of equipment you bring takes up suppliesand the more promotions a team leader has, the more supplies they will bring by default. Squaddies you bring with each Squad Leader also act as a multiplier on a mission's supply limit.
But supplies are tied to the mission, not a resource you have. And so you should always maximize the amount of accessories you use. There is no downside to this, and it will give you more firepower and options in any mission. Always bring the best you can.
Don't forget to upgrade your ship
The TCRN Impetus is the ship that guides you across the cosmos on your various operations, and it is your own base of operations. And that's why it's important not to forget that there are, and upgrade as soon and as often as you can.
New components are unlocked by building trust with factions and then uses OCI to install these components. These are also important upgrades. Things like repairing vehicles between missions, unlocking one-shots, offering more intelligence to detect which enemies you're facing, and so on.
Update your gear
Each team has a variety of equipment that it needs. These include primary and special weapons, accessories, armorvehicles in some cases and so on. These almost exclusively determine what's available to your team, so it's important to keep an eye on it.
But never get complacent. Certain missions will reward you with new gear, especially when fighting human enemies. The black market always has a rolling selection of items to offer, for. Never miss a chance to improve your gear as they can often be dramatically better than what you started with.
Keep an eye on your troops
While each team has a leader, the rest of the group must consist of someone. That's where Squaddies come into play. These are all the other troops in a squad, all giving you extra damage and hit points, at the price of a higher supply cost the more troops you have.
Squaddies are finite though. They will regenerate slowly over time, and you can call via the black market for more, but this can be ridiculously expensive. Be sure to never put your troops in reckless danger during missions, as although health is restored between missions, there's every chance you won't get those troops back.
Invest in one With Bay in the Impetus is a good choice, as it has a chance to save any troops that are felled during a mission.
Build intelligence
Before starting a mission in Menace, you can map the mapthe approximate location of enemies, your targets and the terrain while placing your units. This information can still be helpful, but doesn't exactly help when it comes to team building. That is the role of intelligence.
Intelligence is basically the information you have about the parameters of a mission. While some operations have their own methods of acquiring intelligence, upgrading Impetus with sensors is your primary means of keeping a constant level of intelligence on your enemies. It might not seem worth it at first, but once you have enough gear to plan your teams more, it becomes an essential tool.
