When a game is announced, especially with spotted trailers or bold promises, it is easy to be swept up in the hype. But sometimes what finally lands on our consoles at launch is something completely unrecognizable. Graphics are downgraded. Mechanics disappear. And players? They notice.

15 best PC games of all time, ranked
Both inheritance games and newcomers have earned their place.
This list looks at games that changed significantly between announcement and release, and if they in the end. Some fasted the landing and exceeded my expectations, while other face -planted and then encrypted for months (or year). Some of these launches were frustrating, and others were inspiring, but everyone is worth a new look.

No man's heaven
Do you remember the endless world promise?
When no man's sky debuted in 2016, it teased endless planets, foreign life and multiplayer. It was a great promise. Instead, players got barren worlds and lacked features (and backlash to accompany it).
Some titles became success stories after the launch, thanks to dedicated dev's and vocal fans. Sometimes it pays to wait for six months.
The game ended with being a completely different experience after the updates, with a better scale. I spent the first weekend grinding through empty worlds and thought I had seen this planet earlier. Now? I have logged over 250 hours of base building, fishing in foreign lakes and explored robotic settlements.

Cyberpunk 2077
Cops, bugs and broken promises
In the case of Cyberpunk 2077, Pre-Launch was hype outside the lists, with CDPR's Witcher 3 stem, Keanu Reeves and visions of a live, respiratory dystopia. But December 2020 servers swarmed with bugs, AI was laughing and Sony even took it away from sales. It is a sad story of horrible misconduct.

9 huge open world games that feel completely empty
Sometimes bigger means not better. We explore some huge places in video games that feel flat and shallow, with hardly any life in them.
It took some time for the game to end up where it would be in the beginning. Fortunately, it eventually came there after lots of updates and extensions. You can finally play the game as intended, even if it took years to get there.

Online multiplayer
Bethesda revealed Fallout 76 2018 as an online -Multiplayer drop, but the launch was impossible to sadden. No NPCs, broken assignments and an empty world that felt more like a copy pasta than a game.
Fortunately, a lot of updates eventually led to the game as a fall. NPCs, fractions and a story were added. Perhaps the most significant change was that the game was fun again. Instead of just hiking through an empty forest, you can actually do something.

Watchdog
So much for the wonderful cityscape
On E3 2012 Ubisoft dazzled with a visually fantastic PC level Demo by Watch Dogs. It had glowing rain and sharp reflections, which made a lively Chicago city. But when it was finally launched, the graphics were seriously toned.
Some speculated that the downgrade was due to the fact that the consoles would be included. The team may have been forced to downgrade. Either way, the downgrade left many players who feel misled.

Duke Nukem forever
14 years promises were transformed into a compromise package
This sequel was announced in 1997 to follow Duke Nukem 3D and became synonymous with “Vaporware.” After the announcement, the game changed engines and changed completely instructions before it was finally launched in 2011.
When it was released there was the game, but it is about it. It felt dated, and you could tell that a lot about the development was from the 90s, even if the game was published 11 years after the turn of the century. It had already been left.

Change
Something completely different from bytes
The prey start in 2017 started life as a sequel and then moved halfway to a conversion of the franchise. It changed to a completely original sci-fi horror game. Despite this, Bethesda insisted on holding on to the exchange title.
Despite the brand adaptation, Prey delivered a fantastic experience. The title may have lied, but the game delivered absolutely, although that was not what most players expected. Instead of some Tolkien style, I went into Talos in, chopped systems and manipulative environments in ways that felt fresh and smart.

At the revelation in 2017, the anthem dazzled with rising exosuits and promise of a rich live service RPG. Unfortunately, at launch in February 2019, it felt seam. It was buggy and thin on content.

The 28 best RPG shooters
Role games and shooters are among the most popular genres in all video games. When composed, they have delivered some star plays.
In the coming months, Bioware rolled out “documents” and teased a complete rebuild with Hymne next year. However, at the beginning of 2021, the project was completely scrapped. I remember the excitement at E3 that fades in frustration after launch, but I can appreciate that the developers did not try to continue with anything that did not work.

The last custodian
A decade long journey that was worth it
When Sony revealed The Last Guardian in 2009, fans believed it would be launched on PS3 in 2011. However, the development took so long that the title was forced to switch to PS4 (and another five years delay).
Game delays can be good! As frustrating as it is, delays usually mean more Polish.
At E3 2015, it resumed, still beautiful but noticeably specified from its original demo. It may have taken a while, but this is one of the few games where changes and delays actually led to the fans being happier with the finished product. I waited nine years for this game, and every second it felt worth it.

Mass Effect: Andromeda
The new start that crashed
Andromeda, which was revealed at E3 2015 and launched in March 2017, was intended to start a new era without Shepard. The game promised a lot, including procedurally generated planets, but many ambitious ideas were scrapped late in development due to extent issues.
Marketing teams sometimes work separately from Dev -team, so trailers can hype features that either do not exist or are not close to being finished. Always take pictures in the engine with a grain of salt.
This resulted in a promising game that was tormented by bugs and screenworks that were not quite right. After launching, Bioware released several spots and tried to fix cosmetic problems and balance problems. But they gave up a greater development by 1.10. I clocked a few dozen hours after patch and found enough to spark curiosity and leave me disappointed that it had not come completely formed.

Final Fantasy XV
A riot resume
Originally, as a final fantasy, counter 13 back in 2006, the title was completely changed by its reclassification in 2013 to Final Fantasy 15. The shifted platforms from PS3 to PS4/Xbox One. What started as a dark spin -off became a complete measure RPG with open world trips and cooking during the day.
I remember thinking that the Duscae demonstration on the E3 had an absolute massive scale. But by the 2016 release, it had been shifted to a genre-defining bromance that stole hearts to even those who had never moved a final fantasy game before.
