The Witcher 4 development team is growing
CD Projekt Red has now revealed during a financial report to investors that The Witcher 4 now has a development team of 499 people. The Witcher 4 on its own has gained 88 new developers since the end of February 2025. Looking at the total numbers, over half of the developers working for CD Projekt Red now work with The Witcher 4and the company reported that it had 933 developers across all projects as of February 28, 2026. Most of its teams have gained members, including Project Sirius, the placeholder name for the planned Witcher multiplayer game, which has seen its team expand from 49 to 71 over the course of a year. The exceptions are its Hadar project, which has gone from 29 to 26, losing three members, while the “Other” category has seen three more members leave or relocate.

Although these latest numbers shed some light on exactly how many people are working with The Witcher 4there have been previous indications that CD Projekt Red has expanded its development team in a big way. Between December 2025 and now, The Witcher 4s development team has added many developers from popular games released by other studios. This includes the addition of Baldur's Gate 3 film director Felix Pedulla, former Blizzard composer Russell Brower, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 cinematic animator Lucie Hennet. It's not known how many developers have been added to the team that hold such accolades, but it's clear that CD Projekt Red has sought out team members who have brought some of the most successful games in recent history to life.
While most players are watching The Witcher 4since it's currently CD Projekt Red's focus, it's not the only game gradually gaining new team members. The development team for Cyberpunk 2 has also grown in recent years. In October 2025, the team developed for Cyberpunk 2 had risen from 116 to 135, and this new report shows that it has now increased to 149. Cyberpunk 2 is only in the pre-production stage, so there's a good chance that the entire development team could end up being as big or bigger than The Witcher 4 currently working with. However, given that the game could still be years away, that may not be the case for quite some time yet.
An official release window for The Witcher 4 has yet to be announced, but if CD Projekt Red's plan goes as it wants, players will get a slew of new Witcher content. During an earlier earnings call, CD Projekt Red's co-CEO noted that the studio planned to release three new ones Witcher games, starting with The Witcher 4over the course of six years. The Witcher 4 will likely have the longest development time of the three, with the remaining two able to benefit from the work put into the fourth game. Although there is still some time to wait, players have a lot to look forward to.
