You'll find plenty of Steel-type Pokemon to choose from in Pokemon Legends: ZA, but many of them are Pokedex fillers rather than fighters. If you need a strong Steel-type to use against the various Rogue Mega Evolutions rampaging through Hyperspace Lumiose, we've got you covered with an analysis of the strongest Steel Pokemon to use in the Mega Dimension DLC.
From unique Pokemon that only appear once to more available options that you can fully search for, these are the best Steel-type Pokemon to add to your team for the Mega Evolution DLC.
Pokemon from the base game are included, but strength is determined based on the Pokemon's viability within the Mega Dimension DLC.

Melmetal is a great Steel-type Pokemon that excels as a physical-oriented option, if you have the patience to wait until after the Mega Dimension DLC's final postgame boss. Aside from how late you get access to this mythical Pokemon, it comes with some glaring issues, most notably its lack of special defense and its abysmal speed that makes it slow to the draw.
On the plus side, if you play to Melmetal's strengths, it can easily dispatch any weak Pokemon to its steel-type attacks. If you've been saving some Rogue Mega Pokemon battles (looking at you, Crabominable), this Pokemon can help get through them a lot easier. Just come prepared to use Plus Moves, as this Pokemon lacks a Mega Evolution.

Genesect is an unusual case as this Pokemon is theoretically a strong Steel-type option thanks to its high BST and many powerful moves. However, like Melmetal, since this Pokémon becomes available after you've already completed the Mega Dimension DLC story, it serves more as a trophy than a useful option to carry your Steel-type damage.
Luckily, Genesect is a much more well-rounded Pokémon than Melmetal, so you don't have to worry about which Pokémon you deploy it against, as long as they don't have access to Fire-type attacks. Genesect benefits from eight total resistances in addition to complete immunity to Poison-type attacks, making it a pretty tanky option compared to some of the other top steel types.

Finding and evolving Scizor became much easier in the Mega Dimension DLC thanks to it becoming available in the Hyperspace Lumiose Wild Zones that span the entire story. With this increased availability, Scizor establishes itself as one of the best Pokemon to add to your team as you progress, or start with it from scratch if you evolved your Scyther during the base game.

With access to a powerful Mega Evolution, Scizor's survivability is even greater thanks to a massive upgrade to its BST, including a 150 Attack stat, as well as 140 Defense and 100 Special Defense, which help boost its survivability. This steel and bug-type's main pitfall is its quadruple weakness to fire-type attacks, but thankfully that's its only weakness.

Gholdengo may lack a Mega Evolution, but it's still one of the best Steel-type Pokemon in the Mega Dimension DLC thanks to its impressive Special Attack and incredible range of Resistances and Immunities. If the nine resistances didn't shock you already, this Ghost and Steel type's immunity to normal, fighting, and poison moves will definitely cement its vitality.
Combined with its decent defensive stats, Gholdengo provides a dangerous offensive threat that won't be in danger of one-hit KOs unless you accidentally deploy it against a Ground, Ghost, or Fire-type enemy. Make It Rain is an excellent Area of Effect signature move that can tear through enemy Pokemon in a single hit, which is a big help considering the move also lowers its Special Attack for a short period.

If you're confused about how Lucario and its inferior BST can outperform Mythical Pokémon, there's a simple answer: Mega Lucario Z. Mega Lucario was already a strong Pokémon, but it lacked the special attack to take advantage of its signature move, Aura Sphere. Mega Lucario Z fixes this problem and also makes this Pokemon one of the best Steel Special Attackers in the game.
Mega Lucario Z has 164 Special Attack and 151 Speed which allows it to jump into battle and KO enemies without fear of retaliation, thanks to its massive speed advantage. While physical Steel attackers have long been readily available, special options have begun to appear, with Mega Lucario Z standing out as one of the best options available.

Metagross was the gold standard for steel-type Pokémon for a long time, and despite all the changes in the metagame, especially in Mega Dimension, this pseudo-legendary still impresses. This Pokémon's Mega form has an impressive 700 BST, led by 145 Attack, 150 Defense, and 105 or higher in the rest of its stats, except for HP.
Mega Metagross is arguably the best physical steel type to this day, despite receiving a Mega Evolution long before Legends: ZA expanded the pool. If you need a powerful Mega Pokemon that can carry you through several of the Rogue Mega Pokemon battles you'll encounter in the Mega Dimension DLC, Mega Metagross is a great choice.

Heatran's base form already offered impressive stats and a versatile movepool to cement its status as one of the best Steel-type Pokemon you can get in Pokemon Legends: ZA, but the addition of its Mega Evolution form raised its potential to the next level. Heatran benefits from 175 Special Attack along with 141 Special Defense and 106 Defense to help it take a few hits between its destructive attacks.
You can choose from powerful moves like Magma Storm, Heat Wave, Earth Power, Steel Beam and Flash Cannon when building this Pokemon's set, with a variety of cover options to choose from. Heatran's only major disappointment is its massive quadruple weakness to ground-type moves, along with vulnerability to water- and melee-types.

Magearna wrests the crown as the best steel-type Pokémon away from Heatran, thanks in large part to its comparable BST, great moveset, and lack of a quadruple weakness. The mages also received a Mega Evolution alongside the Mega Dimension DLC, increasing its Special Attack to 170 and its Attack to 125, to allow it to use physical attacks alongside special.
The mages have access to Flash Cannon, Fleur Cannon, Zap Cannon, and Steel Beam, among several other incredibly powerful cover moves to round out its moveset. In addition to its offensive powers, Magear's nine resistances and immunities to Dragon and Poison moves give it the first place as the best steel type in Pokemon Legends: ZA – Mega Dimension.
