Moths are pretty nasty. They're ugly, get in the way and… I don't know. I just don't like them, to be honest. But clearly, the folks at Obsidian have bigger hearts than I do, because they just went and put one in the gory credits for The Outer Worlds 2.
Yes, that's true. If you check the credits for The Outer Worlds 2, you'll see that the special thanks section includes shout-outs to the developers' loved ones… and a moth named Wolverine. And of course there is a story behind it.
Wolverine The Moth can be found in Credits For The Outer Worlds 2
This story comes courtesy of Obsidian's Director of Social Media, Cindy Tran. Or John Obsidian, I should say. Sorry.
“Fun fact that a moth was chilling with us after seeing X-Men at a bar during PAX West,” says Tran. “I named it John 'Wolverine' Moth and it's featured in The Outer Worlds 2. Special thanks to Art Director Daniel Alpert for the special thanks idea.”
I checked and yes, sure enough he is there. John Moth (“Wolverine”) is immortalized for all to see. I'll try to remember this the next time my instinct is to kill one of Wolverine's brothers. I'm sorry, I just, really don't like them, but this might be the wake up call i needed. I wouldn't have been able to kill Wolverine; I wouldn't have had it in me.
This is far from the only hidden joke in The Outer Worlds 2. As I previously wrote about, the game also has a reference to Skyrim's ability to sneak past anyone if you put a bucket on their head. This is through a bucket helmet you can find on Paradise Island, which gives you a huge boost in stealth, but also blocks most of your vision. Now you know how the poor shopkeepers felt when you robbed them blind.
