Even if Mafia: the old country Suffers from some performance problems and features derivative games, its story has proven to be its saving grace. It is easy to lose in the story and the characters, as Enzo continues to dive deeper and deeper into Sicily's criminal underworld.
From now on, only time will tell you what the nominations for best story at this year's Game Awards will be, but it would be surprising about Mafia: the old country were not at least nominated. It is not a perfect game in any way, but it does a wonderful job of deepening players in Enzo's life. Every character in the story feels distinct and plays an important role in showing the high and low to give their lives to a criminal organization, which makes it deserve at least some stories.
