This removed the world's chance for a cure … but did it?

Fans have discussed whether a cure could even have been done, something that the series co -creator Neil Druckmann has now revealed.
After the last episode of The Last of Us made a fairly definitive statement on whether the fireflies could have made a cure, the series co -creator Neil Druckmann has decided the long -term debate.
The last of us consists of many incredible and memorable moments, but by far the most important thing in the entire series is when Joel chooses to murder the fireflies to save Ellie's life and take a chance to a cure away from the world. It is a crucial scene for Joel's character that has a massive rippling effect during the rest of Hans, Ellie's and Abby's stories and one that talks about this day.

The fear of hereditary habits.
In the game, one of the most important reasons for this choice is so discussed that it is left quite ambiguously about the fireflies could even have made a cure by sacrificing Ellie. Fans have discussed the likelihood that a biologist could create a cure for such a humanity discovered virus, something that the show recently made its own mind about.
Yes, the fireflies could have made a cure in the last of us
Joel's decision was really world -ending
During the latest episode of Season 2 by The Last of Us, Joel and Ellie's beloved porch discussion were adapted and combined with the stage where Joel confesses what he did against the fireflies. Ellie Point-Blank asks him if the fireflies could have made a cure of her, which leads to Joel nodding on his head yes as if he knew a cure was possible.
This was a big moment for the fans, as the games never really confirmed if a cure was possible and left it up to your imagination. As pointed out by resetting User Antoo, the series co -creator Neil Druckmann has confirmed in a new interview with Sacred Symbols that Naughty Dog always thought for players to believe that a cure was possible.
On the question of the entire debate, Druckmann said that while “science is shaky”, the intention of Naughty always died that they would have made a cure by sacrificing Ellie. This made Joel's choice a “more interesting” from a philosophical point of view, as it means he really made the choice between Ellie or the world.
All I can say is that our intention is that they would have made a cure. It makes it a more interesting philosophical question for what Joel does. – Neil Druckmann
Druckmann's comments about the debate still leave a small breathing room, but given that he also directed the episode of the show where Joel said that a cure could have been made, it seems quite established that it was possible.
