The God Of War developer's new game will reportedly be revealed this summer

A reliable insider has suggested that Sony Santa Monica's mysterious new game could be revealed as early as this year, possibly even at Summer Game Fest.

Yesterday's State of Play showcase was a surprisingly loaded event that revealed a bunch of massive games (hopefully) coming in the next few years. But arguably the biggest reveal of the bunch was for a God of War trilogy remake that is in very early production at Sony Santa Monica.

A full remake of the original God of War trilogy seems like it will take a long time, leading many to believe that this is what Sony Santa Monica has been gearing up for in the last few years since God of War Ragnarok. That's not quite the case though, as we've known for a while that it's also working on another game that could be revealed sooner rather than later.

Either that, or it's aimed at a “shorter reveal to drop”

As pointed out by Push Square, trusted gaming insider shinobi602 recently took to ResetEra to share some interesting details about Sony Santa Monica's next game. In the thread, shinobi602 says that “given the quarter they're targeting,” he expects to see Sony Santa Monica's game revealed this year.

Knowing the source material isn't the secret ingredient to good adaptations

Being a fan can actually hurt an adaptation like God of War.

Not only did we get to see the next game from Sony Santa Monica this year, but shinobi602 thinks it might even show up during a May State of Play or Summer Game Fest in a few months. The insider isn't 100 percent sure that's definitely the case since the release could have been pushed back, but it will just mean a “shorter reveal to release.”

Even with that uncertainty, it sounds like Sony Santa Monica's new game is pretty far along in development and could be revealed sooner than most of us expect. It will be interesting to see what the game actually looks like, especially since everyone thought it was going to be a space game until Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was revealed.
