Magic: The Gathering fans saw a press release from Capcom that went live early on, revealing an upcoming collaboration between MTG and Monster Hunter. 2025 has been the year of crossovers for Magic: The Gatheringmore than usual, with three Standard-legal Universes Beyond sets and tons of collaborations via Secret Lair drops. This is the new norm for the game, and 2026 is likely to see even more collaborations, with four confirmed UB sets in Standard in the form of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesmarvel superheroes, The Hobbitand Star Trek.
The latest example is MTG Secret Lair PlayStation releases, including cards dedicated to various games available on Sony's consoles, which came out on October 27. There was also a Secret Lair Superdrop on October 13th with several IPs, such as Furby, The officeand Jaws. As such, the idea of a possible cross between MTG and Monster Hunter doesn't come as a surprise, especially with how the latter could fit in Magic: The Gatheringown high-fantasy multiverse.

One of the cards from The Monsters 2 Secret Lair drop is apparently in the first The Monsters release, but it's unclear which one. This means that The Monsters 2 contains four cards instead of five.
While the press release itself is no longer available, fans managed to capture some screenshots, which helped recreate the list of cards in each drop. The goal for the first three drops is to have each color represented at least once, according to the leaked press release, which is especially evident in the first two drops. Each MTG The Secret Lair drop is cheap, by Secret Lair standards, at $30 for the base version and $40 for the foil version.
However, online reception hasn't been great so far, based on the leaks. This is due to two reasons. The first is that there have been several mechanically unique cards in recent Secret Lair drops, such as MTG's Jin Sakai, Ghost of Tsushima, who is undoubtedly a great and interesting Esper commander. Instead, the Monster Hunter collaboration contains only reprints. The second reason is that most reprints are fairly cheap and underutilized, meaning their effective and perceived value is well below $30 or $40 in most cases.
