Mods on console are a game changer for Doom

Finally having Doom's 30-year history of mods available on console will only keep this important piece of gaming history alive that much longer.

A prequel to 2016's soft reboot, this stylish fantasy-inspired FPS answers exactly how the denizens of Hell were able to trap The Doom Slayer in a sarcophagus, ending his bloody conquest (or at least delaying his return).

We got a glimpse of this bloody purge during today's livestream with a new gameplay trailer, which showcased the return of classic-style strafing to aim, brutal iron strike, the revamped glory kill system, and a mighty 30-story mech to slay titan-sized demons. That's not even to mention the dragon riding.

Doom: The Dark Ages is not an Xbox exclusive

If you're a PlayStation gamer eyeing Doomguy's unparalleled carnage, but don't have an Xbox or PC handy, don't worry. You will still be able to play Doom: The Dark Ages on May 15th.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer said last year that Doom is a franchise that “everyone deserves to play,” which is hardly surprising given that the original has been ported to just about everything. Seriously, fans got it running on Captcha.

To that end, Spencer asked id Software studio head Marty Stratton “what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to sell it on all platforms; simple as that” (as reported by IGN).

Unlike Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, another Bethesda release, Doom: The Dark Ages, will launch on PS5 day one with all other platforms. So we will all tear and tear apart soon enough.
