Dual battles are the standard VGC format you're probably used to if you've ever seen competitive Pokemon games. There are Pokemon that are built to be partners that do well in dual battles. Several Pokémon are great for support, while others are perfect for setups.
With the right combos in Pokemon Champions, you can create unstoppable Pokemon lineups that will leave your opponent begging for mercy when they see your party lineup. Of course, it all depends on what kind of team you're trying to create in the end. Regardless of which team you want to build for, every Pokémon here is a solid choice for dual battles.
Garchomp
Garchomp is not only good for single battles, but it is also very good for dual battles as well. With access to AoE moves like Earthquake which will deal decent damage to both opponents, and Outrage which will have Garchomp strike out for a 120 power move against a random opponent, and you can sweep both enemies on the opposing team, as it's a consistent attack that most opponents can't survive.
With moves like Swords Dance to make Garchomp even more powerful and Rock Tomb to slow down opponents, pair Garchomp with anything that won't be affected by Earthquake, and you've got yourself a great partner.
Pokemon Champions: 9 Best Non-Attack Moves to Use
You don't need every move to do damage, you just need a good strategy.
Charizard
Charizard has good coverage, and with both X and Y options for Mega Evolution, it has enough variety to fit into whatever team you're trying to build. Set up Bright Sunlight to take advantage of Charizard's speed and power, and blast grass-type Solar Beam enemies under bright sunlight on the same turn, destroying any Water-type Pokemon in your path.
Pair Charizard with a partner who can set and take advantage of the weather options, and you can manipulate the battle to your liking. Burn the enemy, lower your opponent's stats and make room for your partner Pokemon, all at the same time.
Primarina
Another Pokémon with a decent set of AoE attacks at her disposal, Primarina also has the Fairy type, which helps deal with Dragon-type Pokémon that are quite popular, making her a great addition in dual battles.
Escape moves like Flip Turn also set you up for an easy way to switch out, and Hyper Voice and Surf, along with Dazzling Gleam, will hit everyone on the enemy team at once. You can also play with your opponent's stats, making it easier for your partner Pokémon to follow up.
Corvik night
Corviknight is very scary on its own, and in a double fight it has some important moves that make it a threat to the enemy team. Taunt will force the enemy to only use one attack, potentially protecting Croviknight and its partner, for example.
Corviknight can restore itself with Roost and has a large variety of move types, so it can most likely cover any weaknesses the partner may have. U-Turn is a great setup move in dual battles and a staple for most Corviknight teams.
Excadrill
Excadrill has several AoE movement options that work really well in a dual combat setup. Earthquake is a staple, and moves like Iron Head can help flinch one of the two enemies you're facing, giving you an advantage. Give Excadrill an accuracy boost from its partner to OHKO with Horn Drill, and set up Excadrill with Swords Dance or the enemy with Stealth Rock to help amniulate the battlefield.
With Sand Rush and Sand Force as abilities, a partner who can make a sandstorm for free is the perfect addition to a double fight with Excadrill, making it move faster or making it stronger.
Frozen load
A good option if you want to evolve and one of the new Ice-type Pokémon available to do so, Froslass, like some of the others, has an AoE option in Blizzard. Already being extremely strong, other moves like Shadow Ball and Destiny Bond can help clear out opponents.
Aurora Veil is a great setup for dual combat, reducing damage from physical and special moves by 1/3 for everyone on your side of the team. You can set up a blizzard, use your abilities, attack both enemies and defend your team, and even mega-evolve with Froslass in dual battles.
Mimikyu
Mimikyu is a great dueling contender, as its disguise ability ensures that it is not destroyed immediately. This allows oyu to tune for your team, including removing Trick Room if you're running a slow but powerful version. While most of its attacks are single target, you can get powerful Fairy and Ghost type moves that will deal a surprising amount of damage.
These physical moves will get around the resistances built up to these with special moves, giving you a chance to take down the enemy after a certain set, pairing well with a special attacker.
Whimsicott
Whimsicott comes in as the ultimate support pokemon. If you're bulky enough to survive with a kit that has tons of setups, you don't want one on your team for that very purpose. You have Tailwind to help your team outscore the opposition, and Sunny Day for the perfect weather setup with a partner who can capitalize.
Whimsicott comes with several tools to help mitigate the damage your team takes, taunt the enemy, use Encore to force his hand, or use Helping Hand to make his partner's attacks stronger. It really is the perfect dual battle Pokemon.
Gangs
With a Mega Evolution available to you, Gengar is a great option for dual battles if you're looking for a mega to add to your team. Your Sludge Wave will hit all Pokemon with a small percentage chance to poison. Destiny Bond ensures that if Gengar falls, one of your opponent's Pokemon will also level the double battle.
Icy Wind is another option for decent AoE damage but mostly to slow down both of your opponents. Gangs are only very useful for hitting multiple enemies and keeping the playing field level, making it a great dual combat option.
