Dying Light: The animal finally gives us a proper explanation for the following depressing ending, which saw Kyle turning into a fleeting and seemingly losing its humanity.
One of the most interesting things about dying: The animal is that it gives back the original protagonist in the series, Kyle Crane, and lets us find out what happened to him during the years after the first game's expansion, the following. However, the events in that enlargement raised some big questions about how the beast can even happen.
As you probably remember, the following had two finishes. One saw Kyle become completely nuked (which is clearly not canon because he lives in the beast), while the other saw him turning into a fleeting one. It was a very depressing end for the series leadership, but it almost seems like it has been feedback in the beast.
We finally know why Kyle is not a fleeting in dying light: the beast
However, Dying Light's Zombie Lore is more confusing than ever
That is actually not the case at all. Although Crane is not a volatile in the beast and is more like something in between, it is actually explained on two separate occasions in the game. The first time is not A spoiler, because it is revealed in the “earlier on Dying Light” video that has been shared before launch.
In the summary, Crane notes that he has “clinged to the last riveries in his humanity” and is being chased by GRE for a long time. It is not clear if he was a volatile during that time, but it indicates that he had not completely turned at the end of the following and still had a certain idea of what made him Kyle Crane.
Mild spoilers for a mid-game cutcene in dying light: the beast to follow.
The right explanation of how Kyle held his humanity comes from a conversation between him and Olivia later in the game. In history “Buried Truths”, Olivia will share some details about a scientist who helped Crane when he was caught. Olivia reveals that Kyle was “infected but sensitive” after the following.
Olivia also describes Crane as “part fleeting, part human”, but that his humanity was in some way restored by the researcher. It is a bit vague, but at least that explains how Crane does not run around like a volatile for the whole beast, and why he has such interesting new forces.
