The 5 strongest Dragon Ball characters who can become Super Saiyan 4, ranked

Originally introduced in Dragon Ball GT as a non-canon form, Super Saiyan 4 is one of the strongest transformations in the franchise. Akira Toriyama's last series before he passed away, Dragon Ball DAIMA finally made Super Saiyan 4 canon by having Goku unlock the form while fighting Gomah during the anime's final battle. The canon version of Super Saiyan 4 can't compete with the God forms, though Dragon Ball GT's SSJ4 is borderline overpowered.

Only three characters have unlocked Super Saiyan 4 between Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball GTalthough Goku has experienced several variations of the transformation. If not the upcoming one Dragon Ball Super: Beerus anime finally integrates Super Saiyan 4 into Dragon Ball Supers timeline, Dragon Ball DAIMA may very well be the last time fans of the series see SSJ4 Goku for a very long time.

Super Saiyan 4 Mini Goku has finally made SSJ4 Canon

Even if Dragon Ball DAIMA means Goku unlocked Super Saiyan 4 training himself after the fight with Kid Buu, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot makes it clear that Goku only triggers Super Saiyan 4 for the first time thanks to Neva's magical intervention. During the final battle with Gomah, Mini Goku simply cannot keep up, even with Super Saiyan 3. When defeat seems almost certain, Neva draws out Goku's latent power.

Goku regains his tail and transforms into a Super Saiyan 4 for the first time. Super Saiyan 4 Mini Goku is ridiculously strong, but his smaller body means he still can't access his full power. He puts up a great fight against Giant Gomah, but is ultimately unable to defeat him. Fortunately for Mini Goku, he regains his adult body soon after and is able to lay down Dragon Ball DAIMAs version of Super Saiyan 4 to full use.

Super Saiyan 4 Adult Goku would have killed Giant Gomah if he didn't have the evil third eye

With his adult body back, Super Saiyan 4 Goku enters Dragon Ball DAIMA becomes an absolute powerhouse. SSJ4 Goku makes a complete mockery of Giant Gomah, fighting with all the ferocity of the Great Ape as he beats Gomah into submission. Super Saiyan 4 Goku's Transcendent Power Kamehameha is so overwhelmingly strong, the technique shakes the very foundation of the Demon Realm and pierces a hole in Giant Gomah's chest.

Broly, Super Saiyan Majin Vegeta and Zamasu

Dragon Ball: The 10 best-written villains in the Franchise, ranked

Dragon Ball villains are a perfect blend of great character design, strong motivations, and strong writing that will keep you thinking about them forever.

Unfortunately for Goku, Giant Gomah is empowered by the Tertian Oculus. With the evil third eye's power boost, Gomah is basically invincible. The only thing that can defeat him is hitting him in the neck three times (something only Majin Kuu accomplishes, and barely). In the end, Super Saiyan 4 Goku is technically stronger than Evil Third Eye Goku, but simply cannot kill an immortal enemy.

Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta caught up to Goku without training

SSJ4 Vegeta

Vegeta spends the most Dragon Ball GT lagging behind Goku in terms of power level. This isn't a big deal for Vegeta, as he has since gotten over his rivalry with Goku, but when pressure finally comes to the Shadow Dragon Saga, Vegeta realizes that he must grow stronger to help his former rival. Putting all his pride aside, Vegeta lets Bulma use the Blutz Wave Generator on him to powerfully trigger the Super Siayan 4 transformation.

To Vegeta's credit, he still has to endure being a golden ape, so technically he unlocks Super Saiyan 4 all by himself. What is most impressive about Vegeta i Dragon Ball GT is that he catches up to Super Saiyan 4 Goku with basically zero training. Vegeta is not a main character in DBGT like Goku, Pan or Trunks, yet he goes from weaker than Super 17 to exactly as strong as Super Saiyan 4 Goku during the final battle with Omega Shenron. SSJ4 Vegeta experiences one of the biggest power boosts in the franchise since Goku's last Zenkai on Namek.

Super Saiyan 4 Goku in Dragon Ball GT is an absolute beast

Super Saiyan 4 Goku in Dragon Ball GT is nothing less than a monster and much stronger than SSJ4 Goku in Dragon Ball DAIMA. After unlocking Super Saiyan 4, Goku goes from significantly weaker than Super Baby Vegeta 2 to stronger in every way. Notably, Super Saiyan 4 Goku is so strong, Dragon Ball GT actually goes out of his way to make sure SSJ4 Goku never beats a main villain after the Baby Saga.

Omega Shenron, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta and Super 17 in Dragon Ball GT

These are the 10 strongest Dragon Ball GT characters 30 years later, ranked

Dragon Ball GT's power scaling is off the charts, so much so that Dragon Ball Super needed God Ki just to compete with DBGT's strongest characters.

Super Saiyan 4 Goku kills several Shadow Dragons, but during the fights with Super 17 and Omega Shenron, Goku is ultimately unable to keep SSJ4 active and must resort to other means to defeat his opponents. However, this does not mean that Super Saiyan 4 is weak – far from it. Dragon Ball Heroes regularly portrays Full Power Super Saiyan 4 which is about the same level as Dragon Ball Supers God forms, such as Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. Unfortunately SSJ4 has nothing on Ultra Instinct or Ultra Ego.

Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta is one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball history

Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta

During the final battle with Omega Shenron, Vegeta suggests that he and Goku fuse. By performing the Fusion Dance as Super Saiyan 4s, the two Saiyans fuse into Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta – the single strongest character in Dragon Ball GT and one of the most overpowered fighters in the franchise. SSJ4 Gogeta utterly humiliates Omega Shenron, effortlessly dodging hits and putting him through the paces.

Unfortunately, Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta suffers from the same flaw as Gotenks: he's a prankster. Instead of killing Omega Shenron when he has the chance, SSJ4 Gogeta continues to fool around and waste so much time that he can't kill Omega before he disarms. If Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta took the fight seriously, he would have been able to kill Omega Shenron instantly; that's just how high his power level is.
