Nintendo Switch owners have the chance to add a free game to their digital libraries, but they must act quickly. When it comes to free games, the vast majority are relegated to PC. “Free” games on consoles almost always require subscriptions to services such as PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass. Similarly, Nintendo Switch owners can access a large library of Nintendo Classics with a Switch Online membership, but free games to keep are virtually non-existent.
It's extremely rare for Nintendo Switch owners to be treated to free games, but it's not uncommon. During the holiday season, some companies give away free games to help promote other titles, but that's about it. That's why it's always an exciting time when a game is truly given away for free on Switch, so fans shouldn't pass up.
Soft Drift is free on Switch
right now, Smooth Operation is free on the Switch eShop. The game is usually $3.05, so it's not a huge savings, but you can't hit for free. Smooth Operation is a driving car game with 21 levels to complete. It's developed by Frany Games, whose other titles are also heavily discounted at the time of writing, but not 100% off like Smooth Operation. The catch is Smooth Operation is only free until 1:00 a.m. CST on November 9. Needless to say, anyone interested should be sure to claim it right away.
Smooth Operation is a Switch 1 game, but thanks to the Switch 2 being backwards compatible with the original console, that's something Switch 2 owners can claim too. Nintendo Switch 2 can play almost every Switch 1 game, including the vast majority of eShop titles, so anyone with the new console will be interested in checking out Smooth Operation should make sure to catch it while it's still free.
If you happen to miss Smooth Operation Since it's free on Switch, the good news is that it shouldn't take too much longer for more free games to come to the platform. No Gravity Games traditionally gives away free Switch games as part of its annual “Switchmas” giveaway, and unless plans change, it's likely that will be the case this year as well. No Gravity Games giveaways tend to start in early December, so more free Switch games should be here in about a month. It's possible that there will be other free Switch games as well, so fans should stay tuned.
