New Splatoon 3 listing may tease Potential Switch 2 plans

Also rumors about Splatoon 3The future of the future should be taken with a fine grain of salt, an update of ratings may give fans reason to hope for new developments. The Pan European Game Information (PEGI) rating website updated its Splatoon 3 list to include the Switch 2 as a console the game is available on. Currently, Splatoon 3 has a placeholder release date of December 31, 2025 for Switch 2, alongside the original release date of September 9, 2022 on Switch.

Even if Splatoon 3 received a free patch in June 2025 to accommodate the launch of the Switch 2, the changes made were mostly on the graphical side. In addition, Splatoon 3The 10.0.0 update made some graphical compromises with the original Switch system to keep the game fair for users on both systems in competitive game modes. It is currently unclear why Splatoon 3 received a PEGI rating update to include Switch 2, given that version 10.0.0 was released six months after the listing was updated.

Also, a similar list for Pikmin 3 Deluxe was found earlier in December in PEGI's database, where the Switch 2 was added to the list of supported consoles. Both PEGI updates could thus lend credence to the notion that Nintendo still has plans to update specific Switch titles to take advantage of the Switch 2's hardware. While the Switch 2's 2026 release calendar is still in the works, some of the confirmed entries include Nintendo Switch 2 Editions for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Animal Crossing: New Horizonpp. Although Nintendo has not officially stated if Splatoon 3 will get a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, the Splatoon franchise still has another project in development for fans to keep an eye on.

The future of Splatoon on Switch 2 is still in development

Initially revealed at the same time as Splatoon 3's 10.0.0 update, Splatoon Raiders is a spin-off that will see players control a new character called The Mechanic. The Mechanic will be joined by Deep Cut, the main band in Splatoon 3 and its Splatfest event, on the Spiral Islands. While further details of Splatoon Raidersincluding its genre and release window, remain elusive, it's anyone's guess when Nintendo will reveal more information about the upcoming project.

But fans looking to get a Switch 2 to enjoy all the upcoming titles Nintendo has planned for 2026 and beyond should act fast. With the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis causing the prices of RAM kits and solid-state drives (SSDs) to skyrocket across the board, the Switch 2 and other current-gen targets will likely face price hikes throughout 2026. While Nintendo has not stated if or when the Switch 2 will see a price change, time will tell what choices the gaming giant will make.
