- Newly discovered Nvidia shipment data suggests Nintendo may ramp up Switch 2 production.
- Nvidia shipped over 800,000 T239 chipsets (rumored for Switch 2) to a Nintendo-affiliated manufacturer back in September 2024.
- Shipping data also reveals that mass production of potential Switch 2 components, such as RAM and storage, started around the same time.
Some recent shipping data indicates that Nintendo may be preparing to mass produce its Switch 2 next generation console. Since Nintendo is still tight-lipped about the Switch 2, this rumor could be a promising sign for an early 2025 reveal of the long-awaited system.
Nintendo confirmed plans for the Switch 2 earlier this year and committed to a formal reveal of the next-gen machine before the end of fiscal year 2025, which would be March 31, 2025. Since then, it's been nothing but radio silence from Nintendo regarding the Switch 2, leaving fans dependent on leaks and rumors about potential details about the console. With 2024 closing in soon, however, expectations for an upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 reveal have begun to rise, and so has the amount of surrounding rumors.

Why the Nintendo Switch 2's backwards compatibility is a godsend for modern Zelda games
The confirmation that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with games from its predecessor means a lot for modern Zelda games.
A recent rumor claimed that Nintendo might reveal the Switch 2 in January 2025 for a March 2025 launch, mirroring the release strategy of the Switch in 2017. Now, some newly discovered data from eagle-eyed Switch 2 fans lends some credence to this rumor. Universo Nintendo recently published a report discussing some shipment data collected by Famiboard forum user LiC, which claimed that in September 2024, Nvidia shipped over 836,000 units of its T239 chipset to a Nintendo-contracted manufacturer in Vietnam.
Mass assembly of the Nintendo Switch 2's essential components may have begun
The Nvidia T239 SoC (system on a chip) is widely believed to be powering the Nintendo Switch 2, and LiC's collected shipment data suggests that factories have been mass-producing essential components for the console since at least late September 2024. Speaking of which, LiC's information also highlights some potential Switch 2 components that have shipped in significant quantities, such as RAM modules (803,500 units between suppliers Micron, Samsung, and Hynix) and UFS storage (290,000 drives between Kioxia and Hynix).
In addition, Universo Nintendo expects the next component delivery report to be shared in early December, which could possibly shed more light on Nintendo's plans for mass production of the Switch 2. Previous reports have claimed that Nintendo wants to avoid stock shortages for the Switch 2, which could mean that the console's release date slips past March 2025. While this may be disappointing for potential Switch 2 buyers, it would at least ensure they won't face serious shortcomings like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S did in 2020. With just four months left until the end of the current fiscal year, however, Nintendo fans are hopeful that the gaming giant is ready to reveal the Switch 2 soon.
