Super Mario Bros. Wonder gets new update for March 2026

A week after the launch of its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Super Mario Bros. Wonder just received a new update for both Nintendo Switch systems. First released in 2023, Super Mario Bros. Wonder was the first side-scrolling 2D Mario platformer after New Super Mario Bros. subseries. This new game reinvented the style of one of gaming's oldest franchises, bringing clever new additions like the Elephant Mario power-up and the level-bending Wonder Flower effects.

Upon release, Super Mario Bros. Wonder received wide acclaim and became the fastest selling entry in Super Mario franchise to date with over four million copies sold in the first two weeks. With over 16 million units sold, the title proved to be a huge success as a game that was released relatively late in the Nintendo Switch's life cycle. Nintendo looks to build on its success very soon, with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition coming with a new set of content called Meeting in Bellabel Parkwhich adds even more multiplayer hiinks to the base game.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder 1.1.0 Update Adds Amiibo Support, Switch 2 Edition Cross-Buy

Ahead of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, Super Mario Bros. Wonder has just received its latest update, Version 1.1.0, bringing changes across both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. While the patch brings small tweaks and fixes to the original Switch, Amiibo support has also been added to the game, which can be found in the pause menu while players are on course. Additionally, players will now be prompted to select their user from the home menu at game start, instead of the file selection screen.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo has now added support for the game's upcoming version, which players will be able to access when it releases on March 26. When players launch the game, a Nintendo eShop icon appears on the title screen menu. Selecting this icon will redirect players to the eShop, where they can purchase the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack digitally. The Switch 2 version has also added Polish language support, expanding the game's already large set of language options.

Nintendo's latest Super Mario Bros. Wonder the update essentially future-proofs the game for its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. The addition of Amiibo support comes just as Nintendo intends to release a trio of Super Mario Bros. Wonder characters, including Elephant Mario, Captain Toad and the Talking Flower, and Poplin and Prince Florian. Amiibo support available in the original Switch version of the game gives players a little extra incentive to buy the new figures, even if they choose not to buy the Switch 2 Edition of the game.

Adding the eShop button to the title screen feels like a convenient way for Nintendo to encourage existing players to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition. With only a week left until launch, Nintendo will be doing everything they can to push this version of the Super Mario Bros. Wonderespecially as Mario excitement is building with the upcoming release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Super Mario Bros. Wonder's Switch 2 Edition feels like just a small part of Nintendo's larger celebration of the gaming icon's 40th anniversary.
