Studio Pierrot's biggest anime is coming back and it's not Boruto

This post contains spoilers for Boruto.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generation is a highly controversial anime that has divided opinion among viewers. Studio Pierrot worked on the adaptation and it was initially praised by fans for its animation. But it soon became clear that the studio had not planned things.

New Naruto Anime may come out in 2025

Naruto is getting a new anime. Here's everything we know about it.

Studio Pierrot started releasing episodes that were mostly fillers. They had nothing to do with the main story and were only released to give fans something to look at. Not long after, the studio stopped the adaptation altogether. Now Studio Pierrot is working on the return of one of the most iconic anime series, but unfortunately it is not Boruto.

The Black Clover Anime will return in 2026

  • The Black Clover anime is one of the biggest anime of 2026

Earlier in 2025, it was confirmed that the Black Clover anime would return for its fifth season. Although no release date was mentioned, fans were happy that their favorite anime series would return sometime in the future. Now, after months of waiting, it has been revealed that The Black Clover anime will return in 2026. Again, the anime hasn't shared too many details about the project, but at least now there's no reason for fans to worry.

The release date information was shared during Jump Festa 2026, and it was accompanied by a new key image and a teaser trailer. The teaser featured Asta, Yuno, Yami Sukehiro, and Nacht Faust, as these characters will be the center of attention. Viewers can expect to see the quartet in action much more than the rest of the cast.

Black Clover is one of the best Studio Pierrot projects

Moving on to production, it has been confirmed that the Black Clover anime will be handled by Studio Pierrot. While the studio's record isn't entirely flawless, it's certainly hit the ball out of the park with its latest projects. So there's a good chance that Black Clover Season 5 will be the best yet.

The Black Clover manga returns with three new chapters.

When it comes to release dates, fans can expect Black Clover's fifth season to release after the premiere of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. Therefore, the new season will either be released as part of summer 2026 or fall 2026. It wouldn't make sense for the studio to release two big projects in the same month, although it's not completely impossible either.

Even if you think you might lose, you'll be fine as long as you don't give up. Exceed your limits. A path will open for you.

Studio Pierrot hasn't shared any details about the length of the new season, but considering the anime is coming back after a five-year absence, it shouldn't be short. Fans have been waiting almost half a decade to see Asta and the rest of the characters back in action, so giving them only 10-12 episodes would be a grave injustice. Hopefully Studio Pierrot has planned at least 24-26 episodes for the fifth season. If the studio is worried about the time crunch, it can split it into two courses and release both within the same year.

Studio Pierrot must stick to the current pace

Nacht Faust and his little demons - Black Clover

Studio Pierrot needs to maintain the pace of the Black Clover anime that it has set. At the beginning of the series, pacing was extremely problematic. The anime adapted one chapter per episode and sometimes a few more pages from the next chapter. But in the current era, the pace feels overwhelming. In fact, all major anime are stuck adapting multiple chapters in one episode. So Studio Pierrot has to stick with it and cover multiple chapters in one episode. Of course, it shouldn't rush through the chapters, but rather adapt enough so that the pace doesn't seem off.

Boruto Anime's future is in jeopardy

As previously stated, the Boruto anime has always been polarizing. Avid fans tried to like it, but after months of filler content, even they had to give up. The biggest problem with the adaptation was that there was never enough content for the anime to be released every week. The Boruto manga is monthly, so throughout the year it releases 12 chapters. On the other hand, the anime was weekly, which meant it released over 40 episodes (taking into account any breaks, otherwise the number would be 52). So it's clear as day why the Boruto anime was set to fail. Hopefully, if the anime does return in the coming years, it will be seasonal rather than weekly.
