In June 2025, the Chinese room confirmed that it had been hit by layoffs as part of SUMO Digital's companies' restructuring efforts. These cuts affected at least nine employees and called the release date for Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines 2which had already been delayed several times, questioned. Things remained on the right track for Blood lines 2But the move was still a worrying sign for the studio, which has now separated from its parent company to give itself more security and creative freedom.

A Chinese spokesman spoke with IGN to confirm that the studio had completed a management purchase with the help of venture capital company Hiro Capital. The purchase means that the Chinese room can now act as an independent, developer -owned company, as Director Ed Daly says will help it “work with new, original intangible property.” The news will not come long after Sumo Digital announced that it would stop making original IPS, which would mean subsidiary as Still wakes up the depth Developers would only act as support studios. Devs also says that it seemed likely that Sumo would sell the Chinese room to another parent company and further encourage independence.

At the peak of announcing its independence, the Chinese room also revealed that it has two new projects under development. The studio did not announce what these games are or when fans can expect them, but it confirms the company's commitment to Original IPS now that it has broken from Sumo Digital. However, original properties will not be the only one coming out of the developer, as the Chinese room took over the work with Vampire: Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 2023, with current plans to release it in October 2025. Fans may hear more about the studio's second project once Blood lines 2 is out.
Specific games release aside, the independence of the Chinese room can be a healthy breath for players. Acquisitions and misconduct of large parent companies have drawn reviews among shifts such as Microsoft's latest massive wave of layoffs, so seeing an indie developer gain control over their own business feels like a victory in an increasingly uncertain environment for small gaming studios.
