Sony reveals 3 brand new PS5 console and DualSense shell colors

Sony has just revealed a trio of brand new skins for both PS5 and its DualSense controller, with three bright and colorful options available. The latest console in the PlayStation lineup has been a popular choice for gamers since its debut in late 2020, beating out Xbox's main competitor in the Xbox Series X/S. The PS5 has sold more than 84 million units to date, and while it's still far from the Nintendo Switch, Sony had a dominant performance during the 2025 holiday season. Sony has also made a range of customizable PS5 options available to fans.

The PS5 has received two major console revisions since launch, welcoming both the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro. The Slim, as the name suggests, has a smaller form factor than the original PS5, with Sony also selling a separate removable disc drive for the Digital Edition. The PS5 Pro has some big improvements over the original console, with a significantly faster GPU, more storage and many games getting big upgrades on the PS5 Pro. Now PS5 users can trick out their consoles with three brand new console and controller covers.

All the big upcoming PS5 games for 2026 and beyond

From JRPGs to platforming, racing and open-world titles, here are all the big new PS5 games coming in 2026 and beyond.

The PS5 has three new console colors coming this year

Sony officially unveiled a trio of new console cases for the PS5 and DualSense controllers, unveiling the “Hyperpop” collection. Each cover features a gradient design that fades from a solid black at the top of the cover to a bright neon red, green or blue at the bottom. The images included in the post highlight the covers on the PS5's Slim model, with no confirmation as to whether the alternate colors will be coming to the PS5 Pro as well. Sony also revealed some important dates for fans regarding the new console boxes, confirming that pre-orders will open on January 16th and the covers will officially launch on March 12th.

The stunning new console boxes for Sony are far from the first time the company has offered some flashy PS5 options. The PS5 previously received a wide variety of different colored console cases, allowing gamers to swap out the basic white plate for a new look. Sony has also often partnered with popular brands and games to debut limited edition controllers, such as Sony's recent collaboration with Genshin Impact to create an exclusive PS5 controller. The developer even launched a special gray PS5 inspired by the original PlayStation as a limited edition during last year's 30th anniversary.

Sony and the PS5 had a big year in 2025

PS5's new skins are the perfect way for fans to ring in the new year after a hugely successful 2025 for the console. 2025 marked the fifth anniversary of the PlayStation 5, with the PS5 officially passing the milestone of 80 million units sold in August. One of Sony's biggest exclusives of the year was also a huge success, with Death Stranding 2: On The Beach named a finalist for Game of the Year at the 2025 Game Awards. The PS5 even welcomed some of Xbox's biggest franchises to the console for the first time, with Forza Horizon 5 debuts on PS5 in April and Gears of War: Reloaded in August.

With all of the PS5's success in 2025, Sony has set the console up for another big year in 2026. Some of Sony's most anticipated game exclusives are slated for release in 2026, including Marvel's Wolverine and Phantom Blade Zero throughout the year. 2026 will welcome the launch of some major multi-platform games, with both the massively hyped Grand Theft Auto 6 and Resident Evil: Requiem. Sony will even add one of Xbox's biggest previous exclusives, preparing for the launch of Microsoft Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5. Fans of Sony should keep an eye on the PS5 in 2026, with plenty in store for the console.
