Sony releases new PS4 console update for July 2025

Sony has surprised fans and released a new system update for the system software for its previous generation console, PlayStation 4. The new update gives Playstation 4's firmware to version 12.52 and is available to download all over the world right now. Unfortunately, fans who want to see some major changes or improvements to the twelve -year -old console are happy, since Sony says the update is only for security fixes in the console system software.

Although new firmware updates for Playstation 4 are not exactly unknown, they will not come as regularly as they do for Sony's current generational console, Playstation 5. But with that said it was only back in March that a new PS4 update was released. Unlike today's new firmware update, March's patch probably improved messages and usability on some screens. Again, there were no new features or major changes in the update, as Sony is likely to hold some new UI improvements for Playstation 5, which in itself approaches later half of its life cycle.

150 players Multiplayer Shooter games with “Very positive” reviews come to PS5 and Xbox this week

A multiplayer shooter game with very positive reviews that enable massive 150 players are being launched on Xbox and Playstation 5.

Just four months after the console's latest update and Sony is back again, this time to improve the security fixes to Playstation 4's system software. Unfortunately, this is all there is to report on the new firmware update. Those who still use the PS4 console regularly want to download and install system Software Update, which gives Firmware to version 12.52 as soon as possible. Sony has not specified exactly what security fixes were implemented, but it is always important to keep aging consoles updated to ensure that personal data or information is kept safe.

Whether it is Playstation 4 or Playstation 5, console owners have had an unfortunate for a few months when it comes to system software updates. While the latest generation console has not received any significant improvements since the release of PS5 2020, Sony's latest console has also not had a meaningful update since the re -entered classic Playstation themes in April. The function was added late last year to celebrate Playstations 30th anniversary, but was removed in early 2025. However, the themes were received so well by the Playstation community that Sony chose to bring them back permanently in a new system update a few months ago.

While today's unexpected PS4 update probably came as a surprise to some, it was not somewhere as surprising as when Playstation 3 received a new update earlier this year. Back in March, the Sony took the console to version 4.29 with a new firmware update. According to the official PATCH notes, the update was to renew Blu-ray Player encryption key for the console, which allows users to continue using the disc unit. It also made some improvements in the console's system performance, but users will probably not see any significant changes after the update.
