In the magic world of Solo departmentonly the absolute strongest hunters can get S-rankthe highest level in their amazing hierarchy. As a result, some of the most powerful and effective hunters in the entire series S-Rank, including the protagonist himself, Sung Jinwoo.
But just because someone is ranked in this prestigious level does not necessarily mean that they are a good, interesting or impressive character. Many S-ranker hunters in Solo department Are quite bad when it comes to writing, similarity and overall performance, but the following are absolutely worst in the entire series. This list is not based on strength alone, as all S-rankers are obviously strong, but many other factors were also taken into account.

Eunseok
The only person who died in the original Jeju Island raid
The story takes place almost completely in South Korea, which means that this country's S-RANK Hunters are among some of the strongest and most interesting in the series, despite some mistakes. But a South Korean S-ranker, Eunseokis notorious to die before Sung Jinwoo's journey even began. He was killed by Ant Monsters during the original Jeju Island Raid, many years earlier.
Eunseok's role in the story was so insignificant that he did not even show up in the original Manhwa, which was later corrected by the anime adaptation. Of course, fans eventually learned that the Jeju Island ants are actually quite powerful. But the fact that Eunseok was the only S-ranker who died during this raid made him as weak and underwhelming, especially compared to his co-party members.

Jonas
Brazil's strongest hunter was never seen in action
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 151
Something particularly fascinating with the world of Solo department is that each individual country seems to have at least one or two S-rankers. While the story mainly focuses on hunters from Asian, European and North American countries, Latin American readers were happy to know that Brasil's strongest hunter, Jonaswas no. 6 in the global ranking.
Unfortunately, Jonas was killed by the monarchs before he could even do something interesting on the screen, which was very disappointing, especially considering that he was a vessel in the rulers. Of course, the American S-Rank Hunter Christopher Reed met a similar fate, but at least the readers had to witness how strong he was, while Jonas showed up in just a single panel throughout Manhwa. Hopefully, Anime will fix this in the coming seasons by adding a new scene by Jonas who is fighting against the monarchs just before his passing.

Mari Ishida
A dull Japanese hunter who fell to the King King
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 90
- Anime debut: Section 21
All Japanese S-rankers ended up being a pretty disappointment. This was probably intentional by the author, as they had a villain role and served as antagonists against the South Korean S-ranks. Despite all their structure, at least half of them were killed by Ant King during the second Jeju Island raid, and one of his first victims was a young hunter named Mari Ishida.
Unlike his colleagues Japanese party members, Mari chose not to save against the South Korean party, which means that viewers never got to see the magical powers that enabled her to get S-rank. In addition, the Ant King killed before she could show her abilities or her personality, which made her even more forgetful as a result.
5
Kei
With his ice -based forces he should have kept much longer
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 90
- Anime debut: Section 21
At least Mari Ishida died before she could show off her strength. KeiA Japanese S-ranger, turned out to be powerful on the screen, and yet he also ended up being overwhelming. For starters, he had high sensitivity to the mana of others, which made him act quite rude and competitive to everyone else. For context, Cha HA-in has similar sensitivity problems, and yet she is a nice person.
Kei practiced potent ice magic who allowed him to freeze his enemies and even create ice barriers for protection. But despite his impressive powers, he could not strike back against the mighty Myrkungen and was killed by this monster. To make things even worse, Kae indirectly made the King even more powerful, as it absorbed the Japanese S-ranks formidable ice magic and eventually learned how to use it.
4
Goto Ryuji
Japan's strongest hunter was a huge disappointment
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 85
- Anime debut: Section 20
The Japanese S-rank hunters' unfortunate performance can be criticized to their leader, Goto RyujiThe strongest hunter in the entire country. Throughout his short look, he introduced himself as a cold, arrogant, cruel man who thought he was better than everyone else. He was far from the hero that a strong S-ranker would be. He participated in Jeju Island Arc, but not to help South Korea regain the island. His actual goal was to eliminate the country's S-rank Hunters.
But Ryuji was all the bark and no bit at the end of the day. Despite his personality and actions, he was decapitated by the Ant -King in a quick and unsatisfactory way, before he could even show his assumed strength. Even some of the other Japanese S-Rankers who worked under him got to show his abilities, while Goto Ryuji remains one of the most disappointing characters in Solo department to this day.
3
Jay Mills
Made the mistake of not taking the monarchs seriously
- Debut: Chapter 169 (Manhwa)
Jay Mills Be the strongest hunter in Canada. Like Goto Ryuji, he acted arrogantly against everyone else, to the point that he even dismissed Sung Jinwoo's warning that the most powerful monarch, Antares, would invade the earth very soon.
But of course, Jay Mill led the transfer to his passing. Antares came out of a gate in Canada a few days later, and the Canadian S-ranker challenged him by claiming that he was the king that Monarch of Destruction was looking for. Antares responded by attacking before he could do anything and stopped burning him to death in seconds. The worst thing about Jay Mills is that he never even showed his power on the screen, which made the fans wonder if he deserved to act so safely.
2
Yuri Orloff
Tried to deceive a whole country, but that backfired
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 123
Yuri OrloffRussia's strongest S-rank Hunter, was a notorious barrier specialist who could create some of the largest and most sustainable magical barriers in the world. So when a giant S-Rank Gate showed up in Tokyo, Orloff made an ambitious deal with Japan's Draw Sword Guild. He would create a barrier that could protect the city from which monster came out of it, in exchange for $ 10 million a day.
It was clear from the start that Orloff just cared about getting wealth. His huge strength and prestigious reputation made him sloppy and arrogant, and his behavior was even more contemptuous than Goto Ryuji and Jay Mills'. But he couldn't keep his promise. The giants who came out of the aforementioned gate easily destroyed his magical barrier and ended up eating him and proved that the Russian S-ranker was not close as powerful as he had assumed.
1
Hwang Dongsoo
An annoyed, selfish hunter who only cared about revenge
- Manhwa debut: Chapter 85
- Anime debut: Section 20
Hwang Dongsoo was a South Korean S-Rank Hunter who worked in America. When he found out that his older brother, Hwang Dongsuk, had been killed by Sung Jinwoo, he traveled to his home country to find this new hunter and avenging his siblings. This behavior was pathetic on his part, not only because it made him abandon his position temporarily, but also because his brother was a “lizard” who tried to murder Jinwoo while they were in a prison hole.
No one denies that Dongsoo was quite powerful and that he was worthy of S-rank. But he spent the whole story to try to use his enormous strength for his own selfish goals instead of using them to try to help others, not to mention that he also caused unnecessary tension between Thomas Andre and Sung Jinwoo. As a result of his dubious acts, this unlike antagonist stopped becoming a punch bag for many characters, such as Il-Hwan and Jinwoo themselves. The latter eventually turned him into a shadow soldier named Greed.
