In Japan, Shonen Jump is easily the largest manga magazine, and over the years it has seen the rise of many iconic series, including such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, Narutoand many others. Now, however, it seems that the newspaper's golden age is coming to an end. 2024 lost Shonen Jump Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academianow, 2026, The chainsaw man part 2as well as Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo have also arrived at. Shonen Jump may be in deep trouble, but this could also be the perfect opportunity for a new series to shine.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 gets a disappointing update for Part 2
JJK season 3 got a massive update which may lead to a massive downgrade in the quality of part 2.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo And Chainsaw Man End Back to Back
The past few weeks have definitely been pretty disappointing for Shonen Jump. First, last month it was revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, a hit sequel to the original JJK series, would receive three back-to-back color covers in Weekly Shonen Jump. Fans were excited, but of course there was an underlying concern that the series would end. It certainly proved to be true when Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo Chapter 25 was revealed as the last in the series.
Fans were sad to see Modulo go, especially in such a hasty manner, but what's worse is that another iconic manga for Shonen Jump announced its end this week as well, and it's The chainsaw man part 2. Chainsaw Man isn't known for suddenly announcing its final chapters, so this definitely caught fans by surprise. This was particularly surprising since it really didn't seem like the manga was coming to an end yet. Regardless, this week will mark the end of Chainsaw Man Part 2.
How this loss of two major franchises affects the magazine
Shonen Jump has lost major series one after the other. With the likes of Modulo and Chainsaw Man gone, it definitely seems like the magazine isn't what it used to be. In addition to Modulo and Chainsaw Man Part 2's conclusion, fans must also remember that two other major series that have carried the magazine in the 2010s and 2020s just less than two years ago also ended in Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. At the moment, it can be said that the only major series that Shonen Jump has under its belt is One Piece, which has been continuously serialized regularly since 1997, and it now stands as the last pillar of Shonen Jump.
How Gege Akutami and Fujimoto could make a comeback in the future
While Chainsaw Man Part 2 and Jujutsu Kaisen have both ended back-to-back, that doesn't mean the two franchises are now dead. As for JJK Modulo, the editor working on the series has issued a statement asking fans to look forward to the next project from Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki. In that sense, this definitely seems to hint at a new Jujutsu Kaisen project, which is even more plausible because of how Modulo ended, with huge potential for a new series set 300 years into the future.

On the other hand, while Chainsaw Man Part 2 is ending, there is a strong possibility of Fujimoto's manga returning for Part 3, simply based on the fact that the conclusion seems open. It's unknown what Chainsaw Man Part 3 would cover, or if it's even happening. But it's definitely a possibility, seeing how rushed part 2 was with its ending. Fans could see the return of these iconic series with new storylines and new characters.

Why next-gen comics need to step up to fill the void
While endings like Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and Chainsaw Man Part 2 are unfortunate, that's not necessarily a bad thing for Shonen Jump. With the end of the great series, it opens up space for newer series to shine. Shonen Jump could see the rise of new franchises, and it's the perfect time for some new writers to come and take the place of those who have just left.
At the moment, the two most popular manga series of the new generation seem to be Kagurabachi and Ichi the Witch. With fewer old and established series around, more fans may be interested in checking out these newer manga.
