Sega fans are confused about what was actually announced at the Game Awards

Now that this year's edition of The Game Awards is officially over, we can almost definitely say that there was plenty of resolution to a number of massive storylines that made their way into the annual event.

That mysterious statue? Oh, it was for a Divinity game from Larian Studios. All these teases for something related to “The Old Republic?” Yes, Casey Hudson is directing a new Star Wars game. Lest we forget, the branding for Control: Resonant was indeed real, and it's coming out next year.

Maelle, The Hornet, Donkey Kong, Melinoe and Sam Bridges.

But if there's one thing we didn't seem to get a fix for, it's Sega teasing everyone that we don't want to miss The Game Awards via their YouTube channel. Or at least the resolution everyone wanted.

Finally, the massive announcement was for the third and final unannounced Total War game, Total War: Warhammer 40K. It wasn't for Persona 4, a new Sonic game, Shenmue or Virtua Fighter.

Of course, everyone is still trying to figure out where things went wrong and having fun along the way.

Persona 4 or a new Sonic would have been great, but alas

When a user took to Twitter, a user wanted to know — really asked. What was the Sega announcement? Of course, there's a good chance this person knows, but everyone around them has some seriously funny stuff.

The rest of the answers are all equally funny, including one making fun of the fact that Mario Kart World beat out Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for best sports/racing and Sega really wanted people to see the “L” happen live.

As a Mega Man fan who was absolutely ecstatic to see Mega Man: Dual Override announced live, I feel for fans of Persona and Sonic who were holding out hope for a similarly gigantic announcement to be made. Alas, we will have to wait.

That said, while many are having fun at the expense of fans of the big Sega franchises (Sonic, Virtua Fighter, Persona or Yakuza), a Total War x Warhammer game has been a dream for many people, and it's happening, so they're celebrating with joy.

The only understandable frustration is that it's really easy to forget that Creative Assembly, the group behind all these Total War games, is a subsidiary of Sega. So when you hear Sega plus big announcement potential, your mind really goes straight to Sonic and the like.

Oh well.
