I can't put into words exactly how long I've been one LEGO hell, except to say it was possibly my first love growing up, and one of my favorite hobbies now, as an adult. I don't know many people who instantly fell in love with a brand or hobby as a child and then kept it as a central part of their adult lives outside of long-running video game franchises, but that's exactly what happened to me. I'm not sure because the human brain is finicky with very old memories, but I think I got my first LEGO set when I was four, and it was some sort of racing car. I didn't even like cars, but building something with prefab bricks was like a Pandora's box for me that never closed. And now I'm here to tell you that one of the single best things LEGO has ever done is leaving this year, and it's going to be a sad, sad day when it does.
I know LEGO sets retire every year, but some go too soon, and others should never leave in the first place. LEGO's 2026 collaborations are stacked with new sets, including LEGO Pokémon, One Piece, Fortniteand more. Yet the lineup does not include Dungeons and dragons in any way shape or form, which saddened me at first, but is even more of a headscratcher now that I've learned that LEGO's only DnD set ever retires.
5 LEGO sets released in 2026 that will make your child a collector for life
LEGO is bringing a lot to the table in 2026, and these particular sets are great options to introduce your kids to collecting.
LEGO peaked with its dungeons and dragons co-op, and it's only downhill from there
LEGO's Red Dragon's Tale Dungeons and dragons the set sits on top of a shelf unit in my house, with the awesome minifigs and creatures included looking at me as I type this (spoiler: my favorite character is the Dwarf Priest and my favorite creature is the Owl Bear). To say this is a great set would be an understatement, as I think it's not only perfectly made, but it's incredible value for money, and it's also a perfect introduction to DnD to boot, thanks to the included single-playable campaign.
The set is, in my opinion, one of the best LEGO sets in history, hands down. It's not cheap, but overall I'm glad I was able to get it for half of what LEGO did Pokémon Kanto starter set goes for. I didn't even get it for myself, but rather as a gift for my partner, with whom I built it all up and started playing Dungeons and dragons after a long break. If you told me I would love Red Dragon's Tale this much before I built it, I would have laughed at you, but here we are.

My only real complaint with this set is that it doesn't include a LEGO d20 or dice set for it Dungeons and dragonswhich is a missed opportunity. Maybe an idea for the future? A girl can hope, but I still think it's hard to do better than the Red Dragon's Tale set in terms of play value and value for money.
July 2026 is officially the end of an era for LEGO and D&D
As much as this set offers a lot of value, and as much as I can recommend it over and over again, it's sadly retiring on July 31st, 2026, after just a little over two years since its release on April 1st, 2024. Not only is the set retiring, which to me is the ultimate sin, and not just the accompanying LEGO minifigure collection. DnD sold out everywhere before I could collect them all, but this is the only one Dungeons and dragons x LEGO product around, with no new ones in the 2026 range.
Don't expect new LEGO x Dungeons and Dragons sets until 2027 at the earliest
What this means is that LEGO x DnD will be officially dead as of the second half of the year, and if LEGO 2026 leaks are anything to go by, which I'm sure they are, there's no more DnD product is coming at the moment. As such, unless 2027 brings new LEGO Dungeons and dragons sets and/or minifigures, or at least a reprint of the existing ones, fans of both properties will be left with nothing – unless they already own everything there is. On top of that, if you miss out on Red Dragon's Tale before it retires, it will most likely become a collector's item and sell for hundreds of dollars on the secondary market, such as eBay.
Many of the most expensive LEGO sets in history met this glorious end. I would be extremely sad to see LEGO x Dungeons and dragons go this way. I really think so DnD needs more good introductory campaigns and crossovers to bring in new players, and the Red Dragon's Tale set, I think, achieves both excellently. It shouldn't be retired, or at least the news should be accompanied by more sets and announcements. Instead, the silence is deafening.
