Summary
-
Some RPGs punish players to use important skills, such as daunting spin attacks or transformation risks.
-
Examples include Kingdom Hearts 2 Anti -form and sacrifice an ally in Valkyrie -Profile: Plume's Confederation.
- BREATH OF FIRE: Dragon Quarter Raises D-disk when using powerful dragon abilities and forces strategic decisions.
Sometimes games include life -saving mechanics that feel a little overpowered, and they are. In order to balance this mechanics, they may often have punished consequences. It's not one RpgBut a recent example includes Death Standing 2: On the beach From the Master of Trolling fans, Hideo Kojima.
Unlike the first game, players get a ship they can use to speed travel packages around the large continent in Australia and parts of Mexico. However, they will have a much lower class on these deliveries, which makes it difficult to build relationships and in turn unlock upgrades and new tools. So there are some RPG that penalizes players to use skills That are seemingly important for games? Let's go through these challenging examples and decide which ones are most punitive.
The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang
Look up to your spin attack
This is a relatively simple example for an RPG, one that not many people remember, but it still controls. The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang Is a SNES RPG with a tomato -loving vampire fighting other monsters at night. Spike has some combat movements in this RPG, but one of the most fun to trigger means spinning around to attack several enemies.
If players were limited, they could prevent Spike from getting dizzy, but if they went too hard with the spinning attacks, they would be dizzy. In this state, players could not move and were vulnerable to enemy attack. Strangely enough, the line was between dizzy and normal razor, especially since it was so fun to spin.
Kingdom Hearts 2
Soras Anti -Form
Kingdom Hearts 2 Added many new mechanics, with the coolest that gives Sora some new combat forces. With the help of Goofy or Donald, players can turn sora into temporary states as a form of wisdom, which will increase his magical potential. If players use Limit, Master, Valor or Wisdom Forms too many times, there is a chance that Sora will turn into anti -form.
It will be strong, but hard to control, and there is no way to know when it will trigger unless players burst up the information to see it for themselves. Sometimes the Anti form can be a nice surprise, as during random battle, but during a boss struggle it could not appear in a worse time.
Final Fantasy 10
Rikku likes to spend gil
The Final fantasy The series has an incredible number of abilities that will punish players in different ways. Dark Knight Jobs often has attacks that will beat enemies for lots of injuries, but also steals the user's HP. It is bad enough, but the attack that has been present most in these games is Gil Kast.
The name changes between games, but the typical use is the same. For example, in Final Fantasy 10 Rikku has an ability called reserve change. Players can throw as much as 100,000 gil on an enemy to cause 9,999 injuries in return. It is non-elemental damage, so sometimes attacks like this are useful, but no one wants to lose the equivalent of money in an RPG.
.hack // infection
Twilight arm's double -edged sword
.hack // infection is the beginning of a quadrilogy of RPG on PS2. Things start in a false online game called “The World”, where the hero, Drake, is assigned a mysterious force: Twilight -bracelet. With that, players can turn data errors into keys used to develop the story.
Players can also use the Twilight bracelet on any enemy, and it will give them rare rewards. However, it is risky to use carelessly as this will increase Kite's infection levels. When these levels hit their peak, he will suffer from many debuffs, and players will have to fight a lot to get rid of the disease and bring corruption back to a manageable level.
Dark half
Play the hero and villain
- Developer: West One
- Publisher: Enix
- Published: 31 May 1996 (Japan version)
- Platform: SNES
Dark half is an RPG that most people have probably never heard of. That's because this SNES game was never released outside Japan, but the fans have translated it for a growing online community. Interestingly, the campaign is divided into two, with players who can switch between characters; Dark Lord Rukyu and hero Falco.
The entire game is practically built around a penalty system, as the players' movement causes a meter, called Soul Power, to tick down. Movement, which is a penalty that leads to games over for both sides, is wild, so players have to stay on top of fighting against enemies to keep their soul power happy.
BREATH OF FIRE: Dragon Quarter
Dragon or die
BREATH OF FIRE: Dragon Quarter Is the fifth game in the franchise and the last one to meet a console. The game's challenging difficulties may be the reason why the series has been dormant for so long, even though Capcom revived many other qualities. In this tour-based RPG, players would raise a percentage bar called D-Counter when they did anything.
The D disk increases significantly if Ryu, the protagonist, uses its dragon forces, which is also a good way to quickly destroy enemies. This gave the players a dilemma: should they use RYU's forces and risk increasing D-disk, or should they just push through with normal attacks and skills from other characters?

This last game, Valkyrie -Profil: Plume's Federationis a doozy of an example. While the other Valkyrie -profile Games were not simple, at least they were simple enough to grind through. Valkyrie -Profil: Plume's Federation is different, a tactical RPG for DS, with a new character, Wylfred, as the main attraction.
Wylfred could use an object in battle called Destiny Plume, which would give incredible power to the targeted allies, but then they would die after the boost faded. To sacrifice a character player puts time in just to win a battle noise, but Valkyrie -Profil: Plume's Federation Is so difficult that the choice becomes necessary often during a playthrough.
