Endings are hard to come by in any medium. A bad ending can ruin a story, like if a character dies or things become a dream. In these scenarios, they can change the entire context of a movie, a game, a TV show, and so on.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The final difference
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's the main objective is for the titular Expedition 33 to get to The Paintress, kill her and break the curse of this entity, which was killing generations one year at a time. It's a great plot idea, and once players get there, defeat her and return home to celebrate, there's a dark twist. It turned out that this world was actually entirely a painted imaginary country that everyone lived in, controlled from the outside because of a parent's grief over their dead child in real Paris. Several battles later, the actual ending will conclude with the party defeating a new villain, and yet there is one more piece to the puzzle.
Players must decide if they want to side with one of two characters Clair Obscur: Expedition 33is Maelle or Verso. Maelle wants to continue to let this painted world exist, deluded that she can somehow fix things. Otherwise, they can side with Verso and let this world die, which is tragic, but the right thing to do. Following Maelle is the dark ending, which changes the context of the game as players now know that they will subjugate the citizens of this world to a life that is not real, making them a villain as bad as The Paintress.
Final Fantasy 10
Dreams of faith
If the players think about it from the beginning, they can figure out the twist Final Fantasy 10 long before it becomes apparent in the final battle. The game begins with the protagonist Tidus in his homeland of Zanarkand before it is devoured by the whale-like entity Sin and Tidus wakes up on a beach. Everyone he talks to says it's impossible he came from Zanarkand because it was destroyed thousands of years ago. Several times in the campaign they also encounter characters who defy the laws of nature, who are dead, but their willpower keeps them alive as a dream of faith.
10 PlayStation games with perfect endings
Whether they end a franchise or just have an exciting twist, these PlayStation finales are as good as it gets.
All of these little clues should prepare players for one hell of an epiphany after the final battle, where the party essentially kills god. In turn, Tidus disappears as he can no longer maintain his form subconsciously as a dream of the faith as well. That's right, this Final Fantasy the game pulled a twist on The Sixth Sense where the main character was dead the entire time. For players who didn't understand this twist beforehand, they were probably at a loss for words. It really makes the whole game feel different Final Fantasy 10s result, and there is no way to prevent it.
Mass Effect 3
Everything about the trip
To get to the true end of the trilogy, players had to go through the content of three games. All of their choices felt meaningful at the time and carry over to each new campaign in mysterious ways, from saving Ashley over Kaiden to saving the spider-like alien race Rachni. Given that the first two games were epic in how they handled the choice, fans were primed for a finale above all other RPG endings in Mass Effect 3but they met with disappointment. Regardless of the choices players made earlier, they received three choices in the final stage. They could either use the Reaper's power for themselves, kill the Reapers and all synthetic life, or merge the universe into one central race of humans.
The choices weren't as game-changing as fans had hoped they would be, as none of the three options led to very drastic differences in the final cutscene. Calling them vague would be an understatement, making the entire three-game adventure feel pointless to the players in a way because of this lackluster finale. Mass Effect 3really, in the end, it was all about the journey and not the outcome. This idea became a meme, but it still holds up enough that fans have softened their views on the divisive ending over the years. Either way, knowing the outcome now will certainly change how players play the whole game Mass effect trilogy.
Personas 3
The Hero's Journey
Personas 3 have a similar trip to Final Fantasy 10because the hero will die at the end, no matter what choices the players make. Let's go over what makes this game exciting from a first playthrough perspective, with the bandages off. This was the first Persona game to add a real social link system to the game, a way to see party members outside of battle and other NPCs. Forming bonds meant getting bonuses in various ways, from fusion perks to party members performing better in battle.
Which players wanted to communicate with was up to them. In the end, the hero, canonically named Makoto Yuki, must sacrifice himself to seal away an evil darkness. While an adventure awaits after the final battle after the final battle, Makoto is already dead at this point, seemingly willing to stay alive long enough to give his friends one last month full of memories before he disappears. It's incredibly sad knowing the hero's fate when replaying the game and knowing, even with DLC, that things are inevitable. This also remains true in Persona 3 Reload.
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Sora/Riku Twist
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distancedespite its bizarre title and the fact that it appeared on the 3DS and not a console, the story continued after Kingdom Hearts 2 as a true sequel. The campaign was split between Sora and Riku, who were tasked with entering a dream world to prevent nightmares from destroying alternate versions of the classic Disney and original worlds. If Sora and Riku were victorious, Master Yen Sid would make them Keyblade Masters.
The 10 Darkest Endings in Sci-Fi Video Game History, Ranked
The word “dark” doesn't even begin to describe the grim endings of these sci-fi games.
During the campaign, each character only had a certain amount of time before the perspective switched to the other, which both helped keep the pace alive while slowing the story down somewhat. It was an interesting idea, along with the Pokemon-like companions, but the twist was even more exciting. Almost immediately after starting the mission, Sora was corrupted into a nightmare he couldn't escape from, with Master Yen Sid sending Riku in to recover. The campaign did not take place in separate realities, in other words. Instead, Riku was diving into Sora's dreams to save him, thus emerging as the only one to receive the Keyblade Master designation. This shows Riku's growth as a character throughout Kingdom Hearts series.
Fallout 3
Dad questions
Fallout 3 starts off a bit slowly as players grow up as an infant, and then a child, and finally as an adult who must leave their home in Vault 101 to search for their father. Leaving home to find a missing parent isn't a wild idea for a story set in the post-apocalypse, but it was enough of a drive to be compelling. What turns into a parental hunt ends with players having to make a bold choice to save the world, or at least the Virginia area of the defunct American nation.
Players must choose to sacrifice themselves to contain a reactor or send in another party member to save everyone. The obvious choice is to be the martyr, since sending someone else just seems evil. Future DLC allowed players to send in a super mutant named Fawkes, who would survive the explosion, leading to a more positive ending, although it also feels a little shameless. Going with the ending of the sacrificial lamb is another example of a story that feels a little different, knowing how things can end where they begin. Regardless of what choices players make up to this point, it won't change things too dramatically.
