Spoilers for Requiem follow.
You know you've messed up when after the credits roll, the game asks if you want to try again. That's exactly what happens in Resident Evil Requiem if you choose to destroy Elpis, which is hardly surprising given that Zeno whips out his big flashy gun and puts one between Leon Kennedy's eyes – there's no way Capcom is killing their star rookie. We'll be kicking the infected like a 70 year old Leon all the way to Resident Evil 16, just wait.
Still, according to the official Capcom stats, 56 percent of players destroyed Elpis on their first playthrough, while only 44 percent released it and cured Leon. I guess most of us chose to go back and correct that mistake, otherwise you don't get to fight Victor Gideon in his Nemesis form, or see the actual ending where Chris Redfield's team swoops in to save the day. What a disappointing way to end your first Requiem game.
Yes, I chose the bad ending too – I was curious!
So most of us messed up on our first try. Let's move on from the embarrassing statistics – there's a lot more to dig into here. Capcom also revealed that we've collectively beaten Requiem 6.3 million times, and that the first completion (including cutscenes, restarts and pauses) took 16 hours and 48 minutes.
Already, the community has amassed 8,842 years of game time, with a total of 2.8 billion kills. In society as a whole, we have suffered 120 million deaths, which considering the number of people killed, is not so bad. But between getting murdered by zombies and crushed by Chunk, we've crafted 929 million items, collected 15 million gallons of blood, and used 38 million colored ribbons. Surprisingly, over a million severed hands have been analyzed – that's a lot of people trying to solve the enigmatic final puzzle. But more people have been digging through Raccoon City's police station library to find Wesker's private “rookie” photograph. 1.2 million of you, to be exact.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Resident Evil game without a rocket launcher, and while you have to buy it with completion points in the store, players have already racked up over 39 million kills with it. Leon has also exacted a well-deserved revenge with the chainsaw, killing over 86 million enemies. However, the titular Requiem has amassed an impressive death toll of over 269 million, passing both.
If you want to check out the stats and see how you compare, you can do so on the official Requiem site here.
