Spoilers for Requiem follow.
Resident Evil Requiem is a whistle-stop tour through 30 years of the franchise's history, with the adopted child of Outbreak's own Alyssa Ashcroft heading to Raccoon City and the RCPD alongside a Wesker clone, while Leon competes with Mr. X, Plant 43, a giant spider, a new person who even turns out to be Hunkcul, and who even appears to be Hunkmin, Oswall E. Spencer regretted everything and wanted to make amends.
However, according to reputed leaker Dusk Golem (who first broke that Leon Kennedy was returning), Capcom originally planned to go back even further.
“I never said this publicly (and glad I didn't because people might try to execute me if I did), but I'm aware they were working on returning to the RE1 Mansion which just isn't in the final game,” Dusk Golem said.
There is nothing left of the Spencer Mansion to revisit
Mr X, Wesker clones and even a new Nemesis all make sense – they can be reproduced. We've seen tanks full of tyrants and other umbrella experiments. Even the return of Raccoon City works because the Resident Evil 3 remake re-enacted the explosion, ensuring the RCPD and other landmarks survived the explosion. But I can't wrap my head around the Spencer Mansion.
At the end of the 2002 Resident Evil remake (which was remastered in 2015), we see the mansion obliterated by the self-destruct sequence. There is nothing left only a pile of rubble in the Arklay Mountains, and we've already revisited a 1:1 reconstruction of the mansion in Resident Evil 5, so the impact of its return just a few games later wouldn't be as significant as the ruins of Raccoon City. It's certainly possible that Capcom will return to the idea in DLC, given that the ending teased the return of Chris Redfield (who was supposed to have his own Village expansion), but even Dusk Golem isn't convinced.
“To see if they use scrapped stuff in the DLC or something, who knows? I don't,” he concluded.
