Resident Evil Requiem Mod adds infectious zombie bites

If you managed to get through the Resident Evil Requiem on Insanity mode as a zombie kiting pro, a new mod that makes zombie bites contagious and potentially deadly might be the challenge for you.

In most zombie media, the biggest thing survivors have to worry about is getting bitten by a zombie and slowly turning into one of the undead. In Resident Evil, however, it's usually not much of a concern. Pretty much every game in the series sees its heroes clawed, cut and bitten by zombies, only to live on and deliver an RPG to the big bad waiting at the end.

To be fair, it's mostly for gameplay reasons, but it's still noticeable how many times Leon, Grace, and every other main character gets munched on without consequence.

Resident Evil Requiem is no different, as zombie bites are just another day at the office for both Leon and Grace, who never really react beyond losing some health and seeming a little disgruntled. It makes Resident Evil Requiem a little less stressful, but if you're missing that rush, there's a tough new mod that's perfect for you.

To Literally Bites

Leon looks at the T virus in Resident Evil Requiem.

As expected for a Resident Evil game, Requiem has already managed to garner a whole modding community over the past two weeks, ranging from silly inclusions like shirtless Leon to incredibly helpful ones like the Orphanage. Perhaps the most interesting of the bunch so far, however, is one that PC Gamer highlighted called “Bites Matter – Infection”.

Just as the name suggests, Bites Matter makes every zombie's signature move actually count for something other than a little damage. Getting bitten as either Leon or Grace will cause you to become infected, slowly losing health over time (one health point per stack) and building up if you keep getting bitten or just ignore the infection.

As if that wasn't bad enough, infections persist over saves and per character.

The only way to get rid of the infection is to use healing items, but only the Med Injector actually cures it, while green herbs remove stacks and buy you time depending on how many you use. Considering how many people I've seen beat Requiem on Insanity mode in just a few hours, it sounds like this mod is the perfect way to spice things up a bit and add a big challenge.
