Resident Evil Requiem is Bringing Back Ink Ribbons

During the recent Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem will bring back limited savings through the return of the classic color band system, but only for those who want it. Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27th, and it will see both the debut of Grace Ashcroft and the return of fan-favorite character Leon S. Kennedy

The Resident Evil Showcase largely repeated information that fans already knew about Resident Evil Requiembut it had some interesting revelations. For example, it featured zombies who retain traits from their past life, such as a caretaker who still cleans as a zombie and a chef who still chops meat despite being undead. Another zombie appeared to be a hotel customer mindlessly pressing buttons on an elevator. Players will be able to monitor these zombies and use their routines to avoid confrontations or speed them up.

Resident Evil Requiem PS4 version possible

It appears that a PlayStation 4 version of the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem is potentially in the cards.

All revealed at the Resident Evil Showcase

As previously revealed, Resident Evil Requiem will feature both Grace and Leon as playable characters, with Grace's segments being more traditional survival horror and Leon's action horror found in titles such as Resident Evil 4. This was highlighted during the showcase, with Leon shooting zombies, smashing their heads with his boot, killing them with his ax and taking their weapons, including a chainsaw. Grace will have to work with limited ammunition and will have to decide whether to fight or flee from a given encounter, but she is not defenseless. She has a powerful, large caliber revolver called the Requiem which has quite a destructive force. She will also be able to collect blood from dead zombies to craft weapons like a syringe that can make zombies literally explode.

Grace's sections in Resident Evil Requiem definitely sounds like they'll be more challenging than Leon's, but that's largely up to the player. Three difficulty settings will be available: Story, which allows players to focus on the story and puzzles; Standard (Modern), which in practice should be considered “normal” difficulty on par with others RE game; and Standard (Classic), making Grace's episode even more difficult. When playing on Standard (Classic), Grace will have limited saves, determined by the number of color ribbons she can find in the game. This is an interesting return to classic Resident Evil game, and should add a nice challenge for those who want it.

What else was announced at the Resident Evil Showcase

Aside from giving fans their best look at combat, not much else was revealed at the Resident Evil Showcase. Capcom used it to highlight the Porsche collaboration (Leon's in-game car is a Porsche), and also limited edition Hamilton watches. Grace and Leon will both have their own watches in the game, and 2,000 each will be made and sold in real life.

It was also confirmed that there will be concerts to celebrate Resident Evil30th anniversary in Japan, Europe and North America, new 1/6 scale figures of the main characters will be current this fall, amiibo is on the way, the previously revealed Requiem The Switch 2 Pro Controller is coming, and the game will be available on GeForce Now alongside its previously revealed platforms.

The showcase ended with a tease about something called “Elpis”. The Elpis mystery is tied to Leon as well as the death of Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace's mother. Resident Evil Requiem fans will have to wait for the game's February 27 release date to find out more.
