Resident Evil Requiem fans think Leon is out of character

Resident Evil fans are worried about Leon's characterization in Requiem, as a recently released clip seemingly shows him allowing an innocent person to be chainsawed to death.

From the moment Leon Kennedy was finally confirmed to be in Resident Evil Requiem, it was clear that he's not the boy scout we knew in Resident Evil 2. He's not even the cocky but hardened action hero of Resi 4, as his older self is clearly more stoic and jaded, if still quick with the jokes.

Leon's character arc is one of the most interesting things about Requiem, as everyone is eager to see what has happened to him in the years since Resi 6. However, if a recent clip is to be believed, this version of Leon might be a little too different and “out of character” compared to the hero we all fell in love with.

I hope the Second Opinion joke was worth it, Leon

Resident Evil Requiem previews were released yesterday, giving us a bunch of new gameplay and cutscenes from Leon and Grace's campaigns. While most of the new Leon footage looks good, there is one moment that has fans a bit upset, and not for the right reasons.

Resident Evil Requiem is a full circle moment for the survival horror icon

Leon Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft are a match made in survival horror heaven.

The new footage features a cutscene showing Leon in a hospital talking to a nurse, who is panicking about the incoming zombies. As she goes to escape, a zombified doctor brutally kills her with a chainsaw, all while Leon stands by and watches, not bothering to try to help or warn her of the danger.

A big part of Leon Kennedy's character is his drive to help everyone he can, which makes this scene a bit confusing and difficult to watch. On Twitter, SpookyHoo shared a fan's take on the scene that “really bothered” them, as Leon watches the nurse get killed and then just makes a “cool one-liner” without trying to help or even issue a warning.

Not everyone is bothered by Leon's attitude in the clip, with some joking that he's just looking for a place to backflip.

This was supported by dantmnation, who said they “can't stop thinking about how out of character” the scene is. Leon is clearly more jaded in Requiem than ever before, but it's a big change for his character to not even try to help anyone when he has the opportunity. Here's hoping Leon knows she's evil, because at least that would explain it somehow.
