Resident Evil Director admits he has never seen any of the movies

Resident Evil has not been good luck when it comes to live-action adaptations for the silver screen. Sure, the series of movies with Milla Jovovich may have been popular enough to guarantee half a dozen sequels, but they were so discouraged from the source material that you could barely call them Resident Evil films, with one or two references here and there spread over them all.

After that was another rather boring movie in Welcome to Raccoon City, briefly followed by Resident Evil Netflix series, which was so bad that it was preserved after only a single season. With a new Resident Evil movie now in the works – helped by director Zach Cregger – expectations are understandably low, and with his latest comments that he will not follow the game's Lore too close, the fans have encountered another disaster.

Resident Evil Director admits he has never seen any of the movies

Leon examined an abandoned house in the opening for Resident Evil 4 remake.

In a new interview with comic book, however, Cregger has offered a little bit of hope for those who want a movie that is at least faithful to the games. In the interview, Cregger admits that he “[hasn’t] Seen the movies “Because they are” not my thing “, and instead talk about how much he has had to play the games over the years.

Capcom just said Leon will not be in Resident Evil Requiem, but I don't believe them

Suuuure, Jan.

“I love the games,” says Cregger. “I played all the games. I played Resident Evil 4 hundred times through. I'm obsessed with it. And so, I just want to tell you a story that feels like it honors the experience you get when you play the games.”

He goes on to say that he thinks the games are “a playground I just love”, and that the movie he makes “will rip”. Cregger can play quickly and solved with the series Lore, but at least it sounds like the movie he does will be a love letter to the games that came before it. As we have seen with shows such as Fallout and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, who both told new stories in an established universe, that's all you really need sometimes.

Given Cregger's love for horror and Resident Evil 4, I can see a world where his film tries to match the silly B movie vibes from Leon Kennedy's escapades, although he could also be inspired by the more serious horror tone that Resident Evil looks to be. Either way, Cregger loves the games, and at this point I am happy to take it.
