Released with first volume of Banned movies DLC for Resident Evil 7The “Bedroom” tape offers some new story elements as well as a complicated puzzle for you to solve. The DLC draws inspiration from Stephen King's Misery and “escape the room”-style puzzles, which task you with making it out alive while making sure Marguerite Baker doesn't realize you've been out of bed.
Besides simply getting to the end of the DLC, the bedroom drops in Resident Evil 7 has one more task to perform. There are three dead rats hidden in the titular bedroom, and you'll need to find all three if you hope to unlock any trophies/achievements tied to this particular DLC. The following is a complete Resident Evil 7 Bedroom guideincluding how to survive the bedroom tape, and three dead rat sites required for “Ratcatcher” trophy/achievement.

Updated February 28, 2026 by Jessica Orr: “Bedroom” Tape is a very punishing DLC, like if you die you have to start all over again. When you have to control every object for a way out, but every object you control can alert Marguerite and hurt Clancy, it can take quite a while before you actually complete the DLC. To help things go as smoothly as possible (and unlock a trophy/achievement along the way), we've updated this guide with lots of pictures and bolded the most important steps.
Step 1 – Open the grandfather clock
When Marguerite leaves the room, pick up the spoon from the tray and examine it to see an apple symbol. Grab the lantern from the lantern hook for better visibility, then check the wall behind the dresser. It's hard to see, but crouch down and there will be a knife taped to the wall. Grab the knife, then examine the vase on the dresser for a lighter. Whatever you do, do not pull on the stuck box on the dresser, as it cannot be pushed back in and Marguerite Baker will definitely notice that it is out of place.
Next examine the clock sitting on the end table by the bed. Examining the watch will cause the minute hand to loosen and fall off. Unfortunately, it can't be reattached to the clock, but since poor cameraman Clancy is the master unlocker, it can be used to unlock the grandfather clock against the wall.
Open the grandfather clock and note 'Untitled painting Asits at the bottom of it. Pick it up, but be warned that it will set off the grandfather clock. A timer appears at the top of the screen, indicating that Clancy has one minute to return the room to how it was before Marguerite left. If you follow this guide exactly, you should only have to close the grandfather clock and hang the lantern back on the hook.
After the room is restored to its previous state, push Clancy back into bed. Put him back in the reins Marguerite had him in before she left the room, and sit tight until she comes back to see what all the fuss was about. If done right, Marguerite should be in a surprisingly chipper mood, leaving Clancy back to his own devices. If she notices something is off, she'll spit nasty bugs in Clancy's face, and he'll take damage as a result.
Step 2 – Move the bed
With Marguerite gone again, get out of bed and grab the lantern from the lantern hook (if she noticed something is wrong, remove Clancy's restraints with the spoon). quick'Untitled image C' from the wall above the strange book shrine, then go to the corner of the room to the left of the clock. Notice the green shutters here and crouch down. You can find first of the three dead rats lying on the floor behind the shutters. Pick it up and examine it to complete the first step of unlocking the “Ratcatcher” trophy/achievement.
When Clancy is done examining the rat, stand up and take 'Untitled painting B' off the barrel here. The wall on the other side will be covered in spiders, which appear to be protecting some wine bottles and a corkscrew. Ignore this for now, head over to the shrine and look at the prints on the wall.
Place the paintings on the wall in the following order:
-
Untitled painting B
-
Untitled painting C
-
Untitled painting A
Hanging the paintings on the wall in the correct order will open the book on the shrine. A strange voodoo doll can be found inside, with a sewing needle sticking out of its chest. Collect the sewing needle for a gruesome sight, then take the paintings from the wall again. Place Untitled Painting C where Untitled Painting B was (the first slot), then take Untitled Painting B and return it to its place on the barrel in the corner of the room.
Take the sewing needle and use it on the clock. Move the clock hands until it shows at five o'clockand the bed will slide over to reveal a secret, locked hatch. Marguerite will hear the racket and start coming back upstairs, so interact with the watch again to push the bed back into place. Put the lantern back in the lantern hook and go back to bed before Marguerite decides to reappear, with even more disgusting food in tow.
Step 3 – Get the corkscrew
Marguerite will give Clancy a tray of new food, along with a fork and a small portable stove. Wait until she leaves the room and then pick up the fork and the stove. Open the pot with (it's probably human organs) and then take a bite with the fork. If Clancy has taken too much damage up to this point, this will kill him. If not, it will simply leave him a little battered, but it will also reveal the location of the other dead rat. While you could only find Mr. Everywhere Bobbleheads in RE7 hidden all over the Baker family plantation in the main game, you'll have to be prepared to do some nasty things to get the collectibles in this DLC.
Pick up the dead rat from the pot and feed it once. Collect all paintings again and then put them back on the wall in the following order:
-
Untitled painting A
-
Untitled painting B
-
Untitled painting C
The note explaining how to do this is on the floor next to the bed. Anyway, doing this opens the book to a new page, showing a voodoo doll with a leaf on its bib. In addition to the bib, you should also notice that the doll is holding a fork in one hand and a spoon in the other. This reveals the combination to the nearby symbol lock, which works like the one you encountered in the birthday cake puzzle in RE7.
Go to the door with the lock on and turn the knobs so it says Snake, leaf, apple from left to right. Go into the next room and check the top of the bookshelf for the third and final dead ratwhich will unlock the “Ratcatcher” trophy/achievement.
Then examine the cabinet next to the bookcase. The bottom of it is boarded, but it can be opened with the fork. Do so and then crouch down to collect the solid fuel. Open the inventory and combine the solid fuel with the stove.
Go back to the bedroom. Remove the paintings from the wall, return Untitled Painting C to its original locationand then go over to the barrel in the corner where 'Untitled Painting B' usually goes. Instead of putting the painting there, put the stove in its place. Use the lighter on the stove to make a firewhich builds up enough heat to explode one of the wine bottles and kill the spiders. Grab the corkscrew, pick up the stove, put 'Untitled Painting B' back on the dishhang the lantern on the lamp hook and go back to bed before Marguerite comes back. This time she comes faster, so don't whine.
Step 4 – Get the Snake Key
When the coast is done, jump out of bed again and remove the lantern from the hook again. Examine the lantern hook and use the corkscrew on it to pull it out from the wall. Then go back into the room where the solid fuel and the third rat were found, use the cork screw on the lantern hook behind the projector, then use the knife on the back of the projector to remove the red tape and place the lantern inside.
Open the inventory and combine the two lantern hooks to create an iron statuette. Basically, you've created their very own shadow puzzle, which appeared in the main game in several areas, standing in the way of you collecting important items like the grenade launcher. Anyway, approach the additional pedestal from the projector and use the iron statuette. Adjust its position on the front of the projector until it fills Medusa's surface on the painting.
Leave the iron statuette there, then go to the smaller pedestal. Use the fork and adjust its position until it fills the snake's face on the painting. The trick to it is to make the pins form the eyes of the snake. Once that's done, the birdcage, much like the ones you used ancient coins to open in the main game, will open.
Grab the snake key from inside the birdcage and then equip the knife and old button to block. If done correctly, Clancy will be able to fight back against Marguerite long enough to buy you time press over the bed with the bell mechanismused Snake wrench on the doorand drop into the tunnel below. Just walk forward and the “Bedroom” VHS tape will end.
Also with the completion of the bedroom tape, the Banned Footage DLC for Resident Evil 7 will give you a lot more to do, like conquering the extraordinarily challenging Ethan Must Die mode and beating the Daughters gang.
