Rainbow Six Siege X Hacked Credits will not get you banned

Yesterday, hackers launched a massive attack on Rainbow Six Siege X, giving each player two billion credits, hijacking the feed to hurl insults at Ubisoft, while handing out incredibly rare cosmetics.

It might have been tempting to take a ride with these ill-gotten goods, but content creators urged players to stay offline and not touch anything. A moderator on the official Discord server even pointed out that spending these credits might be against the game's terms of service, but if you did, don't worry – you won't be banned.

“No one will be banned for spending received credits,” the official Rainbow Six Siege X social service assured players. “A rollback of all transactions that have occurred since 11:00 (UTC time) is in progress.”

Rainbow Six Siege X Hack may just be the beginning

Ubisoft stressed that it is “working very hard to make sure this is resolved and players can play again,” but if reports are to be believed, the situation could be much worse.

“They used the Rainbow Six hack as a trojan horse, a distraction to access the servers and tried to steal the source code for several of their games,” claimed @TaisonTV (as translated by DeepL). “The alleged group of responsible hackers is demanding via Telegram that if Ubisoft does not contact them with a business proposal for the near future, they will choose which classified information to leak to the public.”

Another concern players had was that their private information may have been stolen as part of the hack. However, according to @TaisonTV, the attackers did not gain access to any personal information, such as passwords and bank details.

Rumors have been circulating online in the wake of yesterday's attack that the hackers have already stolen 900GB of data from Ubisoft, including the source code for all of its games dating back to the 90s—an unmitigated disaster—but this was actually “from another hack a few years ago”, and is unrelated to the current Siege debacle.
