PS5 SSDs to go from 1 TB to 825 GB without a price cut, the leak claims

Playstation finally dug last month, after in Xbox and Nintendo's footsteps and increased MSRP for its current gene consoles. Obviously, it is afraid that it may need to raise these prices even more, and in order to avoid it, evidence has emerged to indicate that PS5 Slim's SSD will be lowered in size, but the price will remain the same.

This new detail comes from Dealabs, which, as far as I am aware, has a perfect record in terms of leaks and shares information before official confirmation, especially in Playstation. The new report describes a future PS5 model that will reportedly be available to buy in Europe from September 13, 2025. That model will be equipped with an 825 GB SSD Contrary to the 1TB standard that comes with the current PS5 Slim models.

The standard edition of Slim PS5 does not appear to be affected and will still have a 1TB SSD.

It looks like PS5's SSD will be smaller, but the price is not

The internal changes in the newer PS5 models, called the CFI-2100 model, appear to have been in motion since at least June. Documents submitted in Japan noted the plans and confirmed that the changes were made in an attempt to handle rising production costs. That is why, although those who buy this model will technically be smaller, they will still have to pay the same as those who already own the console.

In many cases, they will actually pay significantly more. PS5 made the jump up to a 1TB SSD when the narrow model was released in 2023. In Europe, which is currently the only place where this SSD change is shown to take place, PS5's MSRP has jumped up twice, first from € 399 to € 449 and then from € 449 to 49 €. The new model for Slim PS5 will still cost 499 €; You just don't have that much room for your games there.

Although Dealab's report only mentions what is likely to happen to PS5 in Europe, it seems likely that the SSD reduction will affect new PS5 models all over the world, especially when the first plans are described in documents submitted in Japan. It also seems likely that the console will not get a price reduction somewhere that the storage reduction is introduced, as the whole point of that is to prevent the price of PS5 consoles from going up again.

The latest Playstation Price increases mean that the PS5 Pro is now the most expensive console on the market again, and moves the unwanted crown back from $ 730 2TB Galaxy Xbox series X. Although those who buy a new PS5 may be less for more money, with the threatening threat that may still be even more expensive.
