PS4 and PS5 receive new system updates for October 2025

Sony has started October by releasing new system updates for both Playstation 4 and PlayStation 5which are now available to download for all users all over the world. Unfortunately, just like many of the console's previous updates, Sony has not made any significant changes, as Playstation 5's 25.06-12.02.00 update and Playstation 4's 13.02 patch again focus solely on “Security Fixes.”

PS5 Pro New Model 2025 LEAK

Playstation 4 may be over a decade old now, but Sony continues to release temporary firmware updates to ensure that those who still use the console remain secure when playing online games. With AAA titles like the coming Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Playstation 4 still supports the release, it is no surprise that Sony continues to ensure that the console remains safe and playable for its users around the world. The latest update for PS4 was only released in September, which gave improvements to messages and usability on some screens.

PS4 and PS5 both get new updates

During the early hours of October 1, Sony rolled out a new firmware update for Playstation 4 and Playstation 5. The former has now been updated to version 13.02, while the latter now works on version 25.06-12.02.00. Unfortunately, there is not much to call for the two updates. According to the official PATCH notes for both (discovery of MP1st), which can be found further down this article, the two firmware updates are just for security fixes and nothing more.

PS4 system update tasks

Those who still swing the reliable Playstation 4 but want to upgrade to Sony's flagship console will be happy to know that the company has just started rolling out a new version of Playstation 5 with some major visual upgrades. The center of the console has released the glossy design in favor of a matte black finish, and the PS5 Slim digital edition is about 4.23 ounces easier. Unfortunately, there is a disadvantage to this new model, as it seems to come with 825 GB of storage, as opposed to the previous 1 TB.
