PS2 Games That Deserve The God Of War Reboot Treatment

God of war was released at the end of the PS2 era in 2005 and was slightly more than most games on the system. Not only was it more mature thanks to the language, blood and nudity, but it also featured a protagonist who was hard to root for. The more the series went on, the less heroic Kratos seemed.

Game that is basically Zelda Meets God Of War

Are there whimsical Zelda-esque action-adventure games out there that mix in the brutality of God of War? Oh yes, there are…

So when God of war series got the rebooted 2018 sequel, it made sense for the developers to soften Kratos a bit. Now, as a father, Kratos wanted to put the past behind him to become a better man. So, from the PS2 era, are there any characters that could go through similar transformations for a similar reboot/sequel?

Jak and Daxter

Back to Naughty Dog

The Jak and Daxter the series practically began and ended in the PS2 era, with the final game, Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontierreleased on both PS2 and PSP in 2009. Naughty Dog started the series, but didn't finish it, and fans have been waiting for a new entry for years.

Since Naughty Dog has matured over the years with both Uncharted and The last of usmaybe it's time for them to go back to their platform heritage now. The way the last game ended, it's possible for a reboot to find Jak and Daxter in a whole new world, ready to adventure again, perhaps as more gritty heroes ready to take up the call again.

Siphon filter

A Bridge of Spies

Siphon filter began as a series on the PS1 in 1999, and technically ended on the PS2 in 2010 via Siphon Filter: Logan's Shadowalthough it was based on a PSP game from 2007. Regardless, this is another case that would work well to bring back an older character. Gabriel Logan was the main character of this series, always tackling new terrorist threats.

A reboot could have him leading a new generation of spies, with a new character taking control. An older Logan tasked with going after an old enemy would also work similar to what Ubisoft did with Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell: Conviction or the new Netflix series, Splinter Cell: Deathmatch.

8 PS2 Games More People Should Play

From RPGs to platformers, these PS2 games have unique concepts that deserve to be experienced by more players.

Even if that game was canceled, rebooting the franchise as something more mature and less like another action platformer wouldn't be a bad direction. The game may feature X being pulled out of storage as a rusty android, and having to face Sigma again in a post-apocalyptic version of the future. Only X, as rusty as he is, can save the day.

Wild Arms 5

Released

December 14, 2006

Wild arms started on PS1 in 1996, in Japan, with the last numbered sequel on PS2 in 2006, also in Japan. There was a PSP game and a mobile game after, but nothing like the main series of turn-based RPGs. As Final Fantasyeach entry featured a different set of characters, with virtually no ties between them except for the western-themed planet of Filgaia and the powerful weapons known as ARMs.

The series couldn't be rebooted with a returning character like Kratos, but it could play a grittier version of the Western JRPG idea with darker themes and gore, perhaps considering Red Dead Redemption.

The legacy of Cain

Modern vampires

Blood Omen: Legacy of Cain was the first game in the series and came to the PS1 in 1996. The last main game was Legacy of Cain: Defiance 2003, which was released on PS2 in 2003. Like Mega Man Xattempts were made to obtain it The legacy of Cain series back from the dead in the 2010s with Legacy of Kain: Dark Sunwhich was cancelled.

The titular Kain shares a lot with Kratos in that he is an angry vampire lord who isn't exactly a hero and doesn't pull his punches. Now seems like the right time to bring back the immortal Cain, perhaps in modern times.

Bloodrayne

Evil never dies

Bloodrayne is another vampire series worth returning to, but this one starred a female vampire, Rayne. It all started with the first game in 2002, when Rayne fought Nazis in the 1930s. The sequel set the game in the then modern age, which was an interesting move when it was released in 2004.

Tommy in Grand Theft Auto Vice City

The best-selling PS2 games that made it a legendary console

The PS2 remains one of the best-selling game consoles of all time, and this legendary status helps ensure those games sold millions as well.

There was a non-PS2 game in 2011, but this was a 2D action platformer. Since Rayne is immortal, and the series has already shown that it doesn't need to be set in World War II, there are endless possibilities for a rebooted sequel.

Maximo vs Army of Zin

Released

September 18, 2003

Maximo: Ghosts to Glory was a reboot of Ghosts 'n Goblins on the PS2, which was first released in 2001 in Japan. Instead of a difficult action side-scroller, this reboot was a little more straight forward as an action-adventure game and started a new hero named Maximo.

There was a sequel, Maximo vs Army of Zin2003 in Japan, along with a planned sequel that was cancelled. Since this series is generally known to be challenging, restart this specific one Maximum the timeline could work well as a Soulslike, with Maximo coming out to fight again.

Manhunt

Suicide squad

Manhunt was released in 2003 on the PS2, and it remains one of the darkest games Rockstar has ever released. It starred a death row inmate, James Earl Cash, who was sent in to fight other criminals in a death match for a reality show. Cash escaped alive, and his whereabouts were not precisely pinpointed.

There was a sequel from 2007, but it was about someone else. A third game could also feature a new character, who finds himself in a similar situation, or it could bring Cash back with his past finally catching up with him. The latter idea could work well as an older Cash who turned his life around and had a family, and could be forced into murder again to save his family.
