Skating history is a far cry from the formula of previous skate games that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. It's a unique journey through a twisted and visually arresting underworld that uses skateboard mechanics in new and inventive ways. The main character is an unnamed demon who is “made of glass and pain”. The protagonist makes a deal with the Devil, who gives them a skateboard. While the protagonist is a mysterious figure, it is at least known that the moon is the source of this demon's pain. The Devil's Deal requires the protagonist to reach the moon, skate on the celestial body and eat it, which will free the character from their pain. Simple.

Saving lost souls one kickflip at a time

While on this epic journey to smash the moon and devour it, players will get to explore nine layers of a mysterious and hellish underworld that is much more than the usual fire and brimstone. Working to become a more capable skater, each improvement brings the protagonist one step closer to completing his mission, but there are many obstacles along the way. Boss fights, other lost souls that need rescuing, and a frog with a really bad memory are just some of the encounters players will face, and it's up to the heroic skater to take down enemies and help those in need before they reach the moon. The PS Plus playlist for December is a diverse list, and Skating history gives even more uniqueness to the offers.

Skate Story consists of outside-the-box storytelling, surreal visuals and third-person action

The surreal beauty of Skating history is not only eye-catching. It's an innovative way to approach skate mechanics to create something that stands entirely on its own. With franchising as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Skatethe environments and stories are much more realistic, although players can make strange combinations. There's really no other skate-based game that involves a pain-filled demon trying to take down the moon. While some places around Skating historys map is more traditional city street environments, some locations look like something out of a fever dream, requiring players to think outside the box when it comes to finding places to grind and kick flip.

Despite its complete overhaul of the formula, Skate Story still boasts some cool features in the genre

  • A powerful soundtrack that helps bring the game's world to life

  • Board adaptation

  • Skate challenges that help players level up

  • Emphasis on creative combinations

These are all important elements of the skate genre that will still feel familiar to longtime skateboard fans. This mix of wild storytelling and classic features provides Skating history a sense of familiarity while promising an experience unlike any other skate game. If skating was taken out of the equation and replaced with more traditional third-person action controls, it would still be an incredibly compelling premise.

Even if someone has not been fond of skate games before, Skating history showcases the genre in a whole new light. The devil, a moon that causes pain, and an underworld filled with bizarre characters are definitely not common in the world of skate games, and it can turn out to be Skating historybiggest strength when it launches on PS Plus.
