Wine Diesel is one of Hollywood's most legendary tough guys. He has anchored Fast and furious Movie franchise decades now and can find all variations on a single line like groot in Guardians of the Galaxy series. He was one of the most bankable action stars in the 21st century and listed main roles in major budget projects such as 2002 Xxx, and tries the hand on an Arnold Schwarzenegger Pivot in Family Price with the 2005s Pacifier. But between these blockbuster franchisees and independent projects, Diesel continued back to a certain character.
That character is Richard B. Riddick, who made his first performance 25 years ago in the 2000s Pitch Black. Since then, Diesel has played the character in two other films, an animated card called Dark rage, And two video game ties. It is a role that has been close to Diesel's heart since almost his career, and it has become one of his signature characters, right up there with Dominic Toretto. On February 1, Prime Video added all three of the most important Riddick movies, so curious viewers can see one of Diesel's favorite roles for themselves.
Riddick's movie performances
Riddick first came to the screens in the 2000s PitchThe A sci-fi/horror/action hybrid directed by David Twohy. The character is introduced as an extremely dangerous criminal, which has been arrested by a Dus hunter named Cole Hauser (William J. Johns) and transported on a passenger space along with a number of other travelers. The ship takes damage and crashes on a desert plane and kills most of the passengers. The survivors must work together to avoid being picked by a group of toothy creatures that are starting to change on them. Fortunately, Riddick is very well adapted to survival, and he agrees to help the survivors to get his freedom.
Pitch was the movie that proved that Diesel was a bank bar action star, basically doubled its modest budget. The film is a product from its time, with a very frenetic early 2000s editing style. But its unique look and extremely cool central character make it a prominent sci-fi movie from the era.
Family
This forgotten action movie is about Vin Diesel's Dungeons and Dragons character
In The Last Witch Hunter, the star in Fast & Furious Saga finally shines a spotlight on his true love, his original D&D character, Kaulder.
Four years later, Twohy and Diesel returned to character in the 2004 The chronicles from RiddickThe Who took the series in a different direction. With a budget approximately four times it for its predecessor, Chronicles Embrace the type of large -scale space opera story as the original rejected. The story draws as much from imagination as it does from sci-fi, making it the epic reach of the epic reach Dune. Chronicles Gives Riddick a backstory and reveals that he is the last survivor of a race called The Furyans, an old breed of warriors who were considered extinct.
Unfortunately, it was both a critical disappointment and the Box Office. Many critics preferred the more grounded, shit feeling of Pitch And found Chronicles Derivatives of other sci-fi epic. Like the first film, it has received a certain estimate over the years, but is considered the worst of the three. Still, it is worth looking at fans of the character. It has lots of cool ideas and an appealing visual style, although its different elements are not all gathered.
Riddick would not return to the large screen for almost a decade after Chronicles' Disappointment, but its failure caused Twohy and Diesel to take the character back to the basics of their third part. The result was 2013 RiddickThe who returned the character to their more scary roots. The film picks up a few years after the events in Chronicles, But Jettison's The Lore-heavy elements in favor of a simple sci-fi survival story.
In the film, Riddick is betrayed and left for death on a hostile planet and must use its many skills to survive. In an echo of Pitch black, Riddick must reluctantly merge with a group of mercenar that chases him to avoid the death of hordes of grotesque creatures called clay demons. Riddick feels more like a real sequel to Pitch black, Again, pick the character against hostile forces and force him to trust his reason to make it alive.
Why Riddick works
The Riddick Series may not be high art, but it has plenty of charm for fans of action-oriented sci-fi. A large part of what makes it work (especially in their first and third payments) is its simplicity. The world's world of space generations and murderers is easy to understand for viewers who prefer their sci-fi slightly less complex. It is all anchored by Diesel, who plays Riddick with the right mix of action star Toughness and Sly humor. Riddick is always the most capable guy in the room, and a large part of the pleasure with these movies comes from seeing him taking care of business. It is ranked among diesel's best works and feels like a character that no one else could play really like him.
Riddick has been with Diesel since his earliest days, as he developed from a future Hollywood star to an icon of over-the-top action, to its present location as a figure's head for the genre. A fourth movie, currently with the title Riddick: Furya Has developed for almost a decade now. It was officially announced back in 2023, with production from last year. Although a little is known if so far, hopefully, fans of this singular series will not have to wait too long for a return trip to their unique shit world.
