Pragamata's release date change leads to canceled Switch 2 pre-orders

Good news, everyone, Pragmata's release date has been pushed forward, and Capcom's next big game will now be here a week earlier than planned. The bad news is that the release date change has resulted in the studio having to cancel all digital pre-orders for the game in Europe and North America on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom used the handwritten note – supposedly created by Pragmata's Diana – to reveal the good news. It's an ongoing joke that has appeared at the end of several Pragmata trailers, as the game was revealed a long time ago and then repeatedly delayed. A cute way to share welcome news this time, with confirmation that Capcom is “delaying” the game a bit.

Pragmata will be here on April 17th, but you'll need to place a new pre-order on Switch 2

The bad news is that Pragmata's change in release date for some reason means that Capcom has been forced to cancel digital pre-orders on Switch 2. The studio has informed those with pre-orders that they will automatically be cancelled, and presumably refunded, and that they hope that those who planned to play Pragmata on Switch 2 will simply place a new pre-order on other platforms in April and join other platforms playing in April.

Pragmata physical pre-orders on Switch 2 are not affected.

Digital pre-orders on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC are not affected, which, while a bit confusing, is welcome news. I'm guessing that a change in release date resulted in digital pre-orders being canceled on all platforms, then maybe Capcom wouldn't have bothered.

It is unclear why exactly this has happened. Pragmata didn't really have anything to compete with by releasing on April 24th. Now it launches the day after Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. A Switch exclusive that probably won't have much crossover when it comes to player base, but still competition when Pragmata before the “delay” didn't really have any.

The responses to the canceled pre-order news suggest that not many have picked up the digital version of Pragmata on Switch 2, which may explain why Capcom was okay with canceling pre-orders. It will have pre-order numbers and may know that the Switch 2 is not how most people plan to play.

That may change between now and April 17th and beyond as more people get a look at how Resident Evil Requiem runs on Switch 2. Capcom has done wonders with the Switch 2 version of the latest Resident Evil game, so it stands to reason that Pragmata will look just as good. If you wake up to a canceled pre-order, you should be able to go straight back to the eShop to place a new one and then play the game a week earlier than planned.
