Potential Nintendo Switch 2 console size measurements revealed

Summary

  • The Switch 2 will reportedly be 270 x 116 x 14mm in size.
  • Without the Joy-Cons, the console is still rumored to be 200mm wide, 24mm longer than the Switch OLED model.
  • The Switch 2 may have an 8-inch screen.

Potential Switch 2 dimensions have surfaced online, thanks to a manufacturer of consumer electronics accessories. The recently leaked specifications suggest that the upcoming Nintendo console will be significantly larger than the Switch.

Although Nintendo still refuses to officially reveal it, the Switch 2 is now widely believed to have entered mass production in late 2024. The possibility that large-scale assembly is underway is supported by the recent influx of online listings for the console's unofficial accessories, seemingly designed around its leaked dimensions. Such leaks are common in the consumer electronics industry, especially with smartphones, where device dimensions often emerge through third-party accessory designs weeks or even months before they are officially announced.

Rumor: The Nintendo Switch 2 Dock may look very different from its predecessor

The Nintendo Switch 2 and its dock may have no problem standing out visually from its predecessors, according to some recent rumors.

In one of the latest examples of this trend, accessory maker Dbrand recently shared a rendering of its first-ever Switch 2 case, which it plans to start selling in the near future. Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz elaborated on this move in a statement to The Verge, saying that the recently shared product design was not based on guesswork but the exact measurements of the next Nintendo console, which the Canadian company obtained through a “3D scan of real hardware.” When asked what the proportions are, Ijaz said the Switch 2 will be 270 x 116 x 14mm in size with the Joy-Cons attached.

The Switch 2 will reportedly be much larger than Nintendo's latest console

Without the two detachable controls, the upcoming console will still be 200mm wide, the executive said. This would make it 24mm longer than the Switch OLED model. Dbrand isn't the first accessory maker to suggest this will be the case. Back in early December 2024, two store listings for a purported carrying case and tempered glass case for the Switch 2 surfaced online, both indicating that the highly anticipated console will have a noticeably larger physical footprint than the device that preceded it.

If the new console is indeed larger than even the Switch OLED model, it will likely have a larger screen. According to an early analyst forecast for 2024, the Switch 2 could feature an 8-inch display, likely retaining the 16:9 aspect ratio used throughout Nintendo's current generation of devices. The rumor mill has also suggested that the Switch 2 dock will be bulkier than the one that launched alongside 2017's hybrid console, potentially to provide greater stability given the device's larger size.

Nintendo has now said twice that it will officially reveal the Switch successor during its current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025. The company is not expected to release the new console before Q2 2025 at the earliest.
