Pokemon winds and waves will be the next main title for the series, and while there's only a teaser trailer for the Gen 10 games, they've already broken a huge trend by coming out in 2027, between four and a half and five years after Gen 9. This is a big deal because a big part of the monster-collecting series is adding new Pokemon and ways to play the games that the last newcomers were. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet year 2022. Sure, Pokemon Legends: ZA added new Mega Evolutions, but it's not the same as new Pokemon.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing for collectors though, as it means they either have more time to get all the existing Pokemon in one place or they'll have an advantage when the new generation arrives, if not both. This is especially relevant now because Pokemon Legends: ZA first and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen later started accounting for tons of missing Legendary and Mythical Pokémon with no way to get them on Switch or Switch 2. As such, Pokemon winds and waves' 2027 release means fans should have access to most of these Pokémon by then, and that's better than what Gen 8 and 9 did.

Details of what Pokemon has planned for Gen 10's box art Legendary monsters are surfacing online as part of a large amount of leaked information.
Every Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in Legends: ZA, FireRed and LeafGreen (and can they be shiny)
One could argue that Pokemon Sword and Shields Dynamax Adventure is pinnacle content for the series as it allows players to hunt down shiny legendaries as well as catch up (pun intended) with some of the rarest creatures in the series up to that point. And this is still very true, but it's also something that happened quite late in the game's lifespan. Gen 9 did something similar with several returning legendaries in The Indigo Disk DLC, but it wasn't met with much excitement due to all of those Pokemon being shiny locked. Fortunately, Pokemon Legends: ZA and Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen fixes this and helps even more.

Returning Legendary and Mythical Pokémon in Switch Games
On top of that, Pokemon Ruby, Sapphireand Emerald on the Switch and Switch 2 is more a matter of when than if as they were datamined as ports upon release Fire red and leaf green. This will most likely make other Pokemon available, such as Registeel, Regice, and Regirock. Similarly, Jirachi can be added, although there is still a way to get it in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl along with Manaphy (and thus Phione).
Similarly, various games have added the remaining missing Legendaries and Mythicals to the roster on Switch over the years. For example, Pokemon Legends: Arceus players can obtain Arceus himself, while being able to collect all the legendaries and mythics from Gen 4, as well as some others, such as the Weather Trio from Gen 5, with the addition of Enamorus. The remaining Legendary Gen 5 Pokemon are found in Scarlet and Violet, as well as Legendaries from Gen 7.
While some of the Pokemon enter Fire red and leaf greens Pokedex were made available earlier, namely in Gen 9, the likely return of Mew and Celebi will make the Switch era great for collectors before Pokemon winds and waves. Even then, it's not even guaranteed that the next set of VGC rules will be built into Gen 10, and instead all of this could play out in Pokemon champion. Regardless of the outcome, however, the Switch games have added most of the missing Pokemon from the franchise's past, and this will be a huge plus when Gen 10 officially kicks off.
