Pokemon Legends ZA: The Ultimate Techniques Guide

Side Mission 186: The Ultimate Techniques i Pokemon Legends: ZA Mega Dimension tasks players with fighting in three trials where the odds are heavily stacked against them. In each attempt, players can only use one of them Legends ZA Beginner Final Evolved Forms: Meganium, Emboar, and Feraligatr to beat three fully evolved Pokémon of the opposite type in a back-to-back battle.

It's a one-on-three in every attempt, and not only are the opposing Pokémon near max levels, but they also have the type advantage. This guide covers battle strategy and the best builds for each trial, as well as a walkthrough of how to easily secure victory.

How to start the ultimate techniques

• How to unlock: Side Mission 186 The Ultimate Techniques become available in Hyperspace Mission 12: The Greatest Gift, after players visit the Rust Syndicate.

Talk to Arcanes near Cafe Bataille inside Wild Zone 6 to start The Ultimate Techniques side quest. She will offer players three trials: The Trial of Grass, the Trial of Fire and the Trial of Water.

To start a trial, put all the Pokémon in your party into the box except the one that must go through the trial period. Trial of Grass requires Meganium, Trial of Fire requires Emboar, and Trial of Water requires Feraligatr.

The Trial of Grass (Meganium)

Meganium Level 100 Content item: Meganiumite Nature: Modest	Light screen	Learns move at level 50.
	Synthesis	Learns move at level 40.
	Ancient power	TM 120 Ancient Power can be purchased for 360 Mega Shards from the Secret TM Vendor.
	Earth power	TM 52 Earth Power is on the roof of Juane Sector 7, just south of Wild Zone 15. Can only be accessed after completion Side Quest 80: A Shocking Territorial Dispute (unlocked after reaching Rank C) to unlock the nearby Holovator.

Mega Evolve as soon as the battle starts, then set the light screen right away. Light screen Doubles Meganium's Special Defense, halving the amount of damage any Special Moves will do when directed at the Pokémon. Both Charizard and Delphox are special attackers, and Blaziken is a mixed attacker, meaning Light Screen will get a lot of value here.

Meganium is still weak to Fire-type moves, meaning you'll need to rely on healing items like Max Potion and Full reset to heal yourself in the midst of battle. If the bag is on cooldown when you drop to low health, use Synthesisand you should be able to secure a profit.

The trial of grass pokemon	How to beat
Charizard	Ancient power should make quick work of Charizard thanks to its 4x weakness to rock-type moves. Earth Power is ineffective because Charizard is Flying type.
Blaziken	Trust Earth power to deal massive damage, then follow it up with Ancient power if the Pokemon is still standing.
Delphos	Both Earth power and Ancient power are super effective against Delphox.

For successfully defeating Charizard, Blaziken, and Delphox with your Meganium in the Trial of Grass, you will receive TM 160 Frenzy Plant.

The Trial of Fire (Emboar)

Emboar Level 100 Content item: Emboarite Nature: Adamant	Sun leaf	The TM 152 Solar Blade can be purchased for 540 Mega Shards from the Secret TM Vendor.
	Pioneering	TM 115 Trailblaze can be purchased for 360 Mega Shards from the Secret TM Vendor.
	Drain Punch	TM 131 Drain Punch can be purchased for 420 Mega Shards from the Secret TM Vendor.
	Thunder Punch	TM 23 Thunder Punch is a reward for reaching level 15 in Mable's Research.

Mega Emboar is a beastly physical attacker, and in order to easily take out the water-type Pokemon facing it in this trial, the stat boost from the mega evolution is crucial. Because Emboar has access to a lot super effective moves against water types like Thunder Punch and Solar Blade, this trial is all about crime.

Sun leaf is nominally the most powerful move in Emboar's arsenal, and all three Pokémon in the trial are weak to it. However, due to the long wind-down animation associated with this move, it may not work as expected. Pioneering is there as a safety net to take advantage of any Grass-type weaknesses the enemies may have.

The Trial of Fire Pokémon	How to beat
Blastoise	Sun leaf, Pioneeringand Thunder Punch are all 2x effective against Blastoise.
Swampert	Sun leaf should be able to easily OHKO Swampert due to its debilitating Grass-type weakness. Follow it up with Trailblaze if it somehow survives.
Greninja	Use Drain Punch to restore health and deal massive STAB damage, then use Thunder Punch or Trailblaze to take out Greninja if it's still standing.

For successfully defeating Blastoise, Swampert, and Greninja with your Emboar in the Trial of Fire, you get TM 158 Blast Burn.

The Trial of Water (Feraligatr)

Feraligatr Level 100 Content item: Feralite Nature: Adamant	Ice Fang	TM 15 Ice Fang is a reward for reaching level 7 in Mable's Research.
	Icicle spear	TM 149 Icicle Spear can be purchased for 420 Mega Shards from the Secret TM Vendor.
	Protect	TM 17 Protect is a reward for reaching level 4 of Mable's Research.
	Breaking Swipe	Learns movement at level 26

The Trial of Water is actually the easiest of all trials as Feraligatr has an easy way to deal with its weakness: Mega Evolution. Mega Feraligatr becomes a Water/Dragon type Pokemon, removes its 2x weakness to Grass-type moves. Water/Dragon is one of the better defensive typings in Pokemon, and Mega Feraligatr is only weak to Dragon and Fairy type moves.

All three Pokémon in this trial are weak to Ice-type movesmaking Ice Fang and Icicle Spear the best offensive moves for this matchup. Protect can be used if things don't go to plan, while Breaking Swipe is here as a quick, STAB move to chip away at the last remaining health of any Pokémon that doesn't want to go down.

The Trial of Water Pokémon	How to beat
Venusaur	Use Ice Fang, followed by Icicle Spear. If it stays alive, Breaking Swipe. Protect if it still doesn't go down.
Sceptile	Use Ice Fang, followed by Icicle Spear.
Chesnaught	Use Ice Fang, followed by Icicle Spear.

For successfully defeating Venusaur, Sceptile, and Chesnaught with your Feraligatr in Trial of Water, you get TM 159 Hydro Cannon.

For completing all three attempts, Side Mission 186: The Ultimate Techniques will be marked as completed and you will receive 10,000 Poke Dollars.
