Pokemon has added Quaxly to its Build-A-Bear plush lineup

Pokemon has so many plush types that it's hard to keep track of them all. Its most sought after, however, are those that The Pokemon Company outsources to toy manufacturers known for their plushies the world over. Build-a-Bear is one of those companies, and Quaxly is the latest to join its Pokemon family.

Quaxly has arrived at Build-A-Bear

Quaxly's plush was officially revealed by Build-a-Bear this week and is available now through the toy store's website for $59.50. That's a pretty high price for a plushie, but there are a few reasons why it's so expensive. Chief among them is the brand — it's both an official Pokémon product and made by Build-a-Bear — but even Pokémon's Build-a-Bear plushies are part of larger packages.

You get more than just Quaxly for the nearly $60 asking price. Build-a-Bear plushies are different from others on the market not only because of their higher quality, but also because you can dress them up and make them talk. Quaxly has both of these extra features at no extra cost.

The Water type comes dressed in an orange and blue tank top which I assumed was a life jacket at first. It has now occurred to me that that would be stupid, because why would a water-type Pokemon need something to help you swim? As is the case with other Build-a-Bear Pokémon plushies, Quaxly also features a five-in-one voice chip. Press the plushie's foot and it will make noises like the ones Quaxly makes in the Pokemon anime.

You can now find all three Paldean Starter Pokémon at Build-A-Bear

Quaxly's arrival at Build-a-Bear means that every Pokemon you're tasked with choosing from at the start of Scarlet & Violet is now part of the lineup. Fuecoco and Sprigatito joined Quaxly in the collection and are available now, each with their own plushies, outfits and voice chips. Somewhat surprisingly, Fuecoco made it in ahead of Quaxly, but not so much for Sprigatito, as Pokemon's grass cat has been heavily pushed as a potential replacement for Pikachu for the next generation of Pokemon fans.

That all three Paldean partner Pokémon are now at Build-a-Bear is proof that in some aspects Pokémon is well aware that they need to start catering more to younger fans. Its first Lego set doesn't reflect that. Three have been revealed so far, all of which will be released on Pokemon Day, and all of which are aimed at adult Pokemon fans. The most expensive of the trio costs $650. You can buy all three Paldean Build-a-Bear plushies three times over for less than that.
